I've been on ADT (Lupron and Zytiga) for two years. My two years ended two days ago on 10/1. Had my last three-month Lupron shot on July 1st, and took my last Zytiga dose on the night of September 30th. So, a time to celebrate, and I did until yesterday when I rolled my ankle by stepping on a drain cover in a parking lot the wrong way. I found out this morning that I have fractured my fibula where it joins the foot at the ankle. Maybe it would have cracked anyway, but I can't help but suspect that two years of ADT weakened the bone enough to fracture when it might have otherwise been a sprain. Hopefully it heals fast though I know the after effects of ADT linger for some time.

Sorry about
the injury, but I think getting off ADT trumps the bad experience. Celebrate as best you can and heal fast. Congratulations!

Ouch - that's got to hurt.
ADT likely did play a role. Hoping you heal fast.

Thanks guys! I guess, as they say, it's always something... People at work are over being extra nice to me based on the cancer diagnosis two years ago, so I guess now I'll take advantage of the broken ankle sympathy as long as I can!

Congrats on the end of ADT. It is taking awhile for it to wear off but as of yesterday my T is up to a grand total 64. My PSA has starting to rise and now sits at .04 up from .02 2 months ago.
I'm sorry for your accident and hope that you recover quickly. I fell and broke 2 ribs a year ago and have also wondered if it was the ADT.
Again congratulations on the end of the ADT. Now the waiting game begins!

Hello SCHOOLPSYCH,
Unfortunate accident! Hope you rest up and heal up --- SOON!
Yes, I have been on ADT shots for five continuous years --- my oncologist is always cautionary with me, reminding me to be careful, in terms of slips, trips, and falls --- and he is especially cautionary in his advice to me, when snow and ice appear each year.
To counteract the loss of bone density, I receive a PROLIA shot to strengthen my bones --- this shot is given every six months. A simple bone density test can be given to determine if any fellow is in need of this.
So --- here's to some HEALING for you, in the next few weeks --- and here's to the CELEBRATION you richly deserve, in terms of finishing up some of your treatments recently.
Thankful for your loyal brotherhood and friendship, here on the website ~

I cringed a bit when I read this--that must have smarted! FWIW, I had a bone density test prior to starting ADT and then again at the end when I was finally off the sauce and it didn't show any loss. But it sure seems suspicious in your case. Hope you heel quickly!

Ouch! Sorry to hear that.
ADT did hurt my bone density a lot. Before ADT started, I had a bone density DEXA scan. Checked again 18 months later, and have been each 24 months after that.
In 18 months mine went from normal to oste
openic with T = -2.3 (just short of osteoporosis T<-2.5).
It would seem the bone density effects vary a lot from person to person. Admittedly I didn't do much during that time either. The ADT was kicking my rear end and I didn't feel like exercising at all.

Congrats and sorry at the same time... I think it took about
6 full months for ADT to wear off of me. My bone density suffered about
10% in my case, based on my hips, even with Zometa. But I was lax on the weight lifting. Glad to hear you made it through primary treatment. May you never need anything else again! Take care. -JR

Let's focus on the positive-off ADT! Congrats. Curious if you ever had a DEXA scan. I'm oste
openia like RedWing. I get an Xgeva shot every 84 days.

You should get a DEXA scan to see whether your bones have lost mass. If so, you can take measures to counteract oste
openia or osteoporosis.
