Mucus in feces months after RT and Lupron?

My husband has been passing mucus in his stools and sometimes some is present when he passes gas. It has been about 10 months since he finished his RT and his Lupron.

Has anyone else had great gobs of mucus still present in BMs? I understand it is normal while going through RT, but not sure why he keeps producing it.

I don't know if it's "normal" while having radiotherapy, but when it starts months afterward it's radiation proctitis, also called radiation colitis. I've had it for three plus months, and neither my gastroenterologist or my radiologist know what to do about it. My research hasn't turned up much either. You might try Apriso tabs or Canasa suppositories.

Hoping our bodies just reject it within a year. Radiation....the gift that just keeps on giving!

Mine went the other way - industrial strength consitpation.

I'd suggest having a GI doc take a look. It can happen.

I pass mucus and it is not from radiation. I discovered it was from a food allergy that I developed. It caused my rectum to itch like hell. My internist had no clue of what to do. I bought a toilet seat bidet and learned how to clean myself out. Gross but works.

try a probiotic and if you really want to get serious try something like the whole 30 diet. it could be as simple as a food allergy or lactose intolerance.

A rule of thumb is that it takes as long to recover (as much as you are going to) from luprolide therapy. If he was on the chems for 12 months, then it will take at least that long to recover. Some of the side effects of treatment can be long lasting or permanent.

1 of the hypothalamus and pituitary hormones that ADT stops your body from producing regulates mucous membranes.This affects both the quantity and quality of the mucous they produce. Any and all mucous membranes, including gastrointestinal, can be affected.

Mucus is a sign of inflamation in the intestines which could be a sign of Crohns or another form of IBS or an out of balance of gut bacteria. I had crohns 15 years ago and one of the symptoms I had was white mucus in my stools along with bouts of diarrea. My suggestion to you is to see a (conservative ) gastro doctor and get a colonoscopy.

when they diagnosed me with crohns, they wanted to put me on the drug Humera which turns off your immune system to stop the inflammation, which has a lot of bad side effects. I did a lot of research and I decided to go with the diet approach instead, and I went on the SCD diet with 100% dedication.

The theory around the SCD diet is to starve to death the bad bacteria in your gut that are causing the inflammation by denying them the thier food source which is carbs and sugar , and to replace them with good bacteria by eating natural yogurt.

To starve the bad bacteria, you have to eliminate all sugar and carbs in your diet. It is a very difficult diet to follow because you have to completely change the way you eat, but it worked for me. After 4 months on the diet, all my symptoms were gone. I continued on the diet for three more years and then I slowly started to eat potatoes and corn and bread again, but still to this day, I don't eat anything with sugar.

I suggest reading the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" or google SCD diet.

I'm also about ten months past my Brachytherapy boost treatment and I've recently had a major flare-up of mucus. It seems better this week and whatever caused it may have passed.
