Quick Onset of Side Effects of Casodex and Lupron

In 2016, I had three months of Firmagon followed by six months of Lupron as part of cyberknife treatment of my prostate cancer recurrence. Within four or five days of first Firmagon shot I started having hot flushes. My PSA dropped from 1.8 to 0.2 after the second Firmagon shot. By the time I had the first three-month Lupron my testosterone must have already reached castration level. The hot flushes did not completely go away year after the last Lupron shot.

On November 16 this year I started taking Casodex and then on November 30 I had the first Lupron shot. I was told that Casodex does not usually lead to hot flushes. But I started having hot flushes just a few days after starting Casodex. This morning, I had a very intense hot flush. How unusual it is to have strong hot flushes only after a few days of the first Lupron shot? I am curious to know whether there are other men with similar experience.

As to Casodex, I had SEs within days. Included hot flashes.
I did one round of Lupron, got a "vacation", then had to go back on it (am still getting 6 month shots). If I recall, it took a few weeks for the Lupron SEs to really settle in.

I had no issues with side effects of any kind while on Casodex. I got my first 6 month injection of Eligard (Lupron) 18 days ago and still don't have any side effects to speak of. Interesting how everyone reacts so differently to these drugs.

Like most I was on bicalutamide (generic Casodex) for a while before and after my first Lupron injection. I didn't really experience any SE's from it. That initially lead me (or maybe 'mislead' is the better word) to believe that hormone therapy is no big deal.

If a person's T is close to low normal, it is possible for hot flushes can start just a few days after the first Lupron shot. Before I had the Firmagon and Lupron shots in 2016, I did not know what was my T before the shots. After my treatment was completed, the URO and RO ordered T test on my insistence. In January 2018 when my PSA was undetectable, my T was 44 and when my PSA reached 1.8 in August my T was 330. At the start of my NIH clinical study for 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT my T was 298. Just before the first Casodex tablet on November 16, my T was 308. That is my T is at the low end of normal, which explains why I am having hot flushes a few after the Lupron shot.

My hot flushes for the Lupron shots in 2017 did not completely disappear even a year after the last shot. That might explain the hot flushes after I started Casodex.
