...so for the last 7 years I have just assumed that "willy" was... to just retire and take life easy..
Love your sense of humor about
it!
I'm really, really sorry to hear that you you have gotten/are getting some misinformation. I guess that the first thing I'd say is that an implant is an option, but that should be last resort...not first.
So, it appears that you're not sure at this point whether your nerve bundles which wrap around the prostate were removed by the surgeon or not...if you still have a copy of your surgery report, it will be reported there, but as someone previously said these nerves are different from "nerves" which emit the pleasurable sensation from orgasm. The prostate nerve bundles serve to help promote an erection...these get "disrupted" or removed during surgery (and irradiated during RT), but men still can achieve an erection without the bundles, although a bit more of an "assist" may be needed.
You said your uro "never mentioned" rehab, but it sounds like—knowingly or unknowingly—you've been doing at least a little bit...having achieved orgasm. That's some rehab (and you should keep that up), but I would strongly suggest looking into what "assist" works best for you.
The first step, in my humble view, is to try some of the PDE5-inhibitors...the pills. You should see your doctor to start this out, because he/she will have a perspective on drug interactions with other existing meds/conditions. I personally haven't seem my surgeon (or any urologist) in more than 8 years, but my care is coordinated through my internist who I see annually for checkups...he initially offered a prescript
ion for a PDE5-inhibitor, but I had received my initial script
from the surgeon. (Today, I buy my tadalafil online because it's far cheaper. Of course, I have kept my internist informed, and he tells me that many of his other patients also purchase PDE5s online/offshore.)
There are 4 mainstays of PDE5's: sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), vardenafil (Levitra), and avanafil (Stendra). They are all different kinds of meds, so (in exactly the same way that I had to "tune-in" my blood pressure control meds, it's basically trial-and-error)—working with your doctor—to find whether, and which, PDE5 works best for you as an individual with the least or no side effects. I got lucky...tadalafil worked just fine for me right away. In general, your doctor (whether you go back to a urologist, or to your GP/internist) will be able to provide you with a small packet of pill samples to try...you should definitely ask for this, first. (Later, if you determine that one of them helps you, you can look into sourcing them...but first things first.)
There's other steps after the pills and before the implant to try, too...but first things first.
Pay a visit to your doc...ask for his/her help with your ED.
best wishes!
