John Dingell lost his battle against prostate cancer but he was 92. I learned that Benson lost his battle against this dreaded disease. He was 89.

I would call these success stories in a sense, considering their ages. On the other hand, there are probably better ways to die.

I read that 92 year old John Dingell discovered his PCa a year ago after it had metasized and declined treatment. He made it a long time without having to deal with all the things we are dealing with so he had a good life from the little I know.

Two other prominent men died recently from prostate cancer
Dr. John G. Gunderson, whose research helped establish borderline personality disorder as a stand-alone diagnosis.
Albert J. Dunlap, a corporate CEO known as "Chainsaw Al" because of his worker layoffs.

We must remember that PCa is second leading cancer cause of death in men. 1 in 41 men will die from PCa. In 2019 the American Cancer Society forecasts 31,620 deaths from PCa. It further estimates that 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed.
And while five year survival rate is nearly 100% for local and regional involvement, it is only 30 when distant mets are found at diagnoses. These rates are based on SEER database from 2008-2014.

He was a good person who accomplished major benefits for us all. He loved and was loved, did his very best and kept his good humor right to the end. A life well lived.
