No question about
it, hiking is not only good fun, but, as Halbert's link points out, can be great for one's health!
Just outside Gainesviile, Florida, here where I am, there is a state park called Devil's Millhopper. Its primary feature, at the center of the park, is a large sinkhole, formed in the distant past, but which has proved interesting enough to gain Florida state park status.
It and the surrounding area are filled with lush vegetation, small waterfalls, examples of most of the different kinds of trees and plant life found in here in north Florida, and, yes, a small nature trail winds through it all, inviting visitors to hike it at their leisure and see the natural sites.
It's not a long trail, a bit less than a mile I think, and traversing it hardly compares to the kind of hiking one would do in the mountains of North Carolina, or perhaps in some valleys in the western states, but it has a certain charm to it. My boys and I have hiked it a few times, and it is indeed a good way to get some good walking exercise while enjoying the sights.
Here's the website for this park:

But a primary point I wanted to make in making this post and telling you about
this little local park here where I am, is that it may well be typical of parks or
open areas you may have in your own areas, wherever you live. Perhaps you already know about
such places near you, or have heard of them, but never visited them.
Well, perhaps now is a good time to go check them out, and in doing so you could benefit from a good, healthy hike, giving your bodies some good workouts.
That has certainly proved to be the case for my boys and me.
Again, not as vigorous as hiking in the Appalachians, but if that place near you is just a short drive away, and the exercise of hiking in it would be so beneficial, why not give it a try?
