Urologist not the best should I worry

I am 32 and for about 6 months now I have had a couple second delay when starting urine flow and burning at the start. Normal urine output and maybe 10 nights I have had to get up in the middle of the night to go. Ive had 3 urine tests, one culture, and a bladder ultrasound. All negative. I had a normal blood test from my PCP. My urologist wanted to do a cytoscopy and on the day when i told him my burning was betweena 1-3 on the pain scale he suggested it was probably just inflammation and didnt want to possibly irritate it more. My question is should I be worried and push for more tests. I have an HMO and this is the only urologist my PCP said he trusts to.recommend me to. Im worried after 6 months without the symptoms getting better I have bladder or prostate cancer. I have no blood at all but my urine seems.foggy a lot. Sorry for the long rant I just dont want my urologist to wait if my symptoms seem like i might have something serious.

Prostate cancer is extremely rare in a person your age, and your symptoms don't cry out "cancer." Your urologist appears to be taking prudent steps to determine the cause.

I don't know anything about bladder cancer, but the American Cancer Society puts the age of onset at 55 and older for 9 out of 10 patients, so it's very unlikely (though not impossible, of course) to be bladder cancer.

You seem to have a decent rapport with your PCP. My advice is to bring your concerns directly to him/her and be candid about your fears. Your PCP is in a much better position to help you than a bunch of old men with prostate cancer.

Son, you probably have an infection of some kind. Prostate infections are notoriously difficult to treat, and your doctor is being careful and deliberate. The odds of you having prostate or bladder cancer at your age are almost zero. Thing is, prostate cancer is generally asymptomatic until it's seriously advanced, and then it presents with bone pain most commonly.

You're scared, we hear that. Like SP said, talk to your PCP, or someone else you trust. Your symptoms sound like an infection. Good luck.

Could I have an infection for 6 months and it only shows those symptoms. Can an infection not show on a urine test?

My problem is I have Ulcerative Colitis so when they tell me there is no sign of infection I am afraid of taking antibiotics as it could throw me into a flare. Thanks for the responses though.

Many believe that drinking cranberry juice helps with UTIs.
Make sure it's organic, and drink it for a few weeks.

You don't have prostate cancer. Probably an infection, that your PCP can help you with. Maybe in consultation with that urologist. Mild antibiotics will not bother your colon.

NO Fluoroquinolones such as ciprofolxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin), or ofloxacin (Floxin)
OK with Sulfonamides like as co-trimoxazole (Bactrim) and trimethoprim (Proloprim)
Tetracyclines such as tetracycline (Sumycin, Panmycin) and doxycycline (Vibramycin) are also OK.

Thanks for the responses. My urologist is kind of crappy. Wont give me anything but Cipro and I wont take it because of the UC. Ill try to ask my PCP for the other ones but theyve both said no infection so hoping he will still prescribe me.

I had a reaction to Levofloxin. Skin on my glans (tip of penis) ripped right off and also the skin inside my mouth. Never has completely cured from it. Extende intercorse and the see through skin on my glans erodes off and bleeds. Have become real good at bandaging my penis with occlusive bandages.

You could ask your urologist about taking OTC Phenazopyridine like azo. Works well for the symptoms you describe, but not a cure. Cipro is one of a few antibiotics that work in the Prostate, urologists like it even though it can be problematic for some.

I had similar symptoms...A run of Cipro cleaned it right up..You don't want to get into urinary retention and end up in the ER.....I had no side-effects from the Cipro..It was a simple UTI...

TL - Before there were Cipro family drugs, sulpha drugs seemed to be the standard that I got in 1991 for an acute infection, cleared it up in a few days. I would probably start there given your history like garyi indicated.
