AUS new implantees

This is a pet peave of mine. A lot of HW guys with implants back when I got my AUS did not know how to operate their AUS's, yeah they could pee but never bothered to learn to de-activate and activate. My doctor at my recent revision commented on the same. She too had noticed that the majority only knew how to pee. Very few medical personnel, save maybe a uro, will know how to operate it. I don't have much trust that the average ER nurse, or any other, will know how to do a catheter if need be.

This topic came up when I saw my surgeon for a cystoscopy a couple of months ago to investigate the cause of occasional blood in my urine.
I asked him if he was going to show me how to deactivate the AUS since he needed to pass the scope through my urethra anyway. He surprised me when he said he didn't need to deactivate it; he was just going to press the pump dimple as if this was a simple urination event, and slip the scope in while the sphincter was open. He did this easily, but I was sore for the rest of the day. (BTW, the cause of the blood in my urine was bladder stones which I had never heard of before.)
I had my sphincter originally activated in August 2018 and purchased an engraved medical alert dog tag on a neck chain. It warns medical personnel not to catheterize me without contacting a urologist for instructions. I now suspect the instructions might be as simple as opening the sphincter normally to pass a catheter through.
