Hello,

Started finasteride in 2014, all has been well but,,,,

12/4/18 PSA 1.5. Taking finasteride M-W-F and a one half pill Saturday for 2-1/2 months, then 8 days before bloodwork took finasteride 7 out of the 8 days, PSA =1.5 lowest ever.
Told Dr. how I took the finasteride.

4/30/19 PSA=1.9 Took finasteride since 12/4/18....M-W-F and one half pill Saturday then one pill Monday,,had bloodwork Tuesday PSA=1.9. Did not take finasteride daily week before test this time just to see what would happen. Dr. did say results were ok. Told Dr. how I took the finasteride.

10/29/19 PSA=2.2 Did everything the SAME as the 4/30/19 test. No daily finasteride a week before the bloodwork. PSA=2.2

Is there any concern here?
Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

I'm assuming you haven't been diagnosed or treated for PCa? My understanding is that Finesteride reduces the true PSA by one-half. A PSA of 2.2 x 2 equals 4.4. A PSA of 4.0 and above is where PCa starts becoming a concern. Are your DREs normal?

When you say doctor, are you talking about your PCP? If so, a referral to a Urologist may be in order.

Dre normal since 2014.
Doctor is urologist seeing regularly since 2014.
PSA was 8.3 in 2014 then started finasteride.

Maybe, but the variance could be explained by the medication and other factors. Don't think it's something you need to stress too much over.

Of course, you'll want to get the doc's opinion on that.
