The link below is to an article in Investors Business Daily website. Unfortunately its paywalled, and if i copied and pasted it would be a violation of both copyright laws and HW terms of service. Still, i thought it was worth putting out there, because it made me wonder if there have been new advances yet in treating advanced PCa with Crisper Therapies. No doubt there will be eventually.
If anyone has seen studies regarding this, it might be worth sharing here.

I have been hearing about CRISPR for a while. Your post inspired me to look into it for the first time, which of course means Wikipedia. They have a nice summary on the history of the technology. That's the part that always fascinates me. Then they got into the meat of the science - and before long my head was spinning. A BS degree in biology from the 80's really didn't help all that much. 🙃

This is the area of research my son is in as a doctoral candidate at Cornell. He is studying a rare childhood liver cancer that is certainly genetically derived. Adult liver cancer comes form environmental situations such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or spread of cancer from other locations. By finding the genetic cause, targeted therapies can be developed including CRISPR, CAR-T, etc.

Gene therapy is both fascinating and hopeful, but far from a go to therapy. A successful track record for PCa, and having any insurance company pick up the bill, will probably exclude most of us.

Wikipedia..."truth" by consensus...fits the paradigm ...so there is that...and less...

not a pushback...just a different perspective...caveat emptor

Yes, Wikipedia is sort "buyer beware." I think it's hit and miss. I wouldn't reference it as a completely reliable source.

I was also able to read the article without a paywall. And regarding garyi's comment, it seems that the pace of discovery, testing and bringing new therapies to market is accelerating at such an amazing pace that I won't be surprised to see some of these therapies being available for Pca in the next few years. Unfortunately, the cost seems to be accelerating, too, so even when new treatments arrive many can't afford them. I hope to see some innovative ideas appear on making these new therapies widely available.

My thoughts, and why i felt it was worth posting, are that this thing is gaining momentum at a rapid pace. Not just CRISPR therapies but all kinds of targeted therapies. The Gynologic Oncology world, for example is now routinely using PARP inhibitors for women with BRCA mutuations, who recur after primary treatment of Ovarian Cancer. And more recently, some of these drugs have been approved for MAINTENANCE after primary treatment, i.e. before recurrence can strike. As a result, women who 10 years ago were given an 80% chance of dying within 5 years of treatment, are now being told that their Ov Cancer is a chronic disease, and lives are being extended big time.
So this stuff is real, and while we haven't seen dramatic results yet in Prostate Cancer targeted therapies, we will, and we will see it in our lifetiimes, IMO.
Lots of hope ahead for men with Advanced cases.
