A quick update in our political area, a 4 phase
opening will start although things at the end of the 4th phase will not mean that it is business as usual pre covid. Our parks
open for daily use May 15th and campsites
open June 1st. Many are very pleased about
having other areas to recreate in. We are lucky in the fact that my wife and I get out most days for long times in the fresh air and sunlight to MTB, road ride, hike and trail run. Haven't started to paddle yet but it will happen soon.
Just had a great 3 hour MTB ride yesterday up a climb trail into the snow before getting the long, steep, rough downhill run back to the truck. Great to keep those fuel lines
open.
Some interesting stats from our chief medical officer as of May 6th. I have used 60 years old and over as most of our HW PC members are in this range.
total covid= 2251
cases hospitalized= 462
cases in ICU=169
covid deaths=124
total population= 5,110,523
deaths/% of pop.over 60= 98%
ICU cases/% of pop. over 60= 68%
hospitalization/% of pop. over 60= 66%
total covid/% of pop. over 60= 35%
In our local health care zone, Population= 750,000
covid cases=179
covid deaths= 2
Another stat that was taken from a study of covid patients hospitalized( not our area) was that only 6% of those admitted had no pre- existing medical conditions no matter the age.
So, going by the numbers, if you have a number of pre-existing medical conditions and are over 60, please stay at home in your bubble. Because if you catch covid, the chance of you cheating the guy in the hoody, with a BMI of 0 and a big scyth over his shoulder looks "Grim".
Are we all going to get covid or it's mutated cousin over time? Who knows. But if we do, my wife and I would like to have no pre-existing medical issues(slow growing PC maybe), so the chances we will clog up the ICU will be less.
