I am sure of one thing, that virtually everyone living in America of reasonable advanced age has heard of Little Richard who died a few days ago of bone cancer at 87, not a bad age to check out. However, he suffered several years from bone cancer. I am not sure if it was prostate cancer that moved to the bones. Nevertheless, Richard was a hoot. RIP.

Yup, the founding fathers of rock are dropping like flies. 87 is a pretty good lifespan, especially given the background which most of the legends grew up with.

Metastatic prostate cancer sounds most plausible. True "bone cancer" isn't that common. It took a long time to determine that my wife's lymphoma was "primary bone" (PBL) because it is so rare. They had to eliminate every other possible source.

Most of the residents in our seniors' community have or have had some form of cancer. Yet many do not understand how truly deadly prostate cancer can be. The guys who are stage IV usually just call it "bone cancer" so that others can comprehend the severity.

It's a shame, really. Any man with cancer is presumed to be lung cancer, no matter what you call it, and any woman with cancer is presumed to have breast cancer, again, no matter what type it truly is. People here have a hard time remembering what day of the week it is... myself included.

81GG - Awop-bop-a-loo-mop alop-bam-boom was in the paper today, lots of drunken variations I assume.

Little Richard went back to the 1950's and predated most of the 1960's rockers by quite some time. Quite the trend setter and ahead of his time.

I believe he was in the first group inducted into the R&R Hall.

Richard also claims that he "discovered" the Beatles, and regretted passing on the chance for a financial interest in the band.

He could really rock! Drove my father absolutely crazy back in the 50's. Thanks goodness we still have Pat Boone who did such wonderful covers of his tunes (just kidding about that. I love Pat Boone, but I think his covers drove Little Richard nuts).

The Beatles was the opening act when he played in the UK.

Bohemond - You might appreciate this quote from our local music critic interviews with Little Richard.

"As an experienced critic, I encountered Little Richard up close again in 1999 at the most unlikely of places — We Fest, the long-time country music and camping festival in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

"I'm just an old country boy from Macon, Georgia, yes, yes, yes," the rock pioneer proclaimed to 37,000 country music fans.

His black pompadour was higher than any of Tammy Wynette's wigs. He wore more makeup than Dolly Parton. And he was attired in maize, all the way down to those lizard-skin shoes. Aware of the context, Little Richard threw in such country favorites as "I Saw the Light" and "Jambalaya" between “Lucille” and "Tutti Frutti."

Backstage, he said he’d enjoyed himself. I didn’t bring an audience with me this time, but he already had one, Fancy Ray McCloney, the Twin Cities comic who started as a Little Richard acolyte and became his friend.

At 66, Little Richard wasn’t as wildly flamboyant as he’d been that night in St. Paul. He was almost down to earth, humble and sincere.

"I've been country all my life," he said. "I felt right at home."

Goodness ..I swear I read/heard somewhere(there is a place for me) that he had advanced Lung cancer...I know I did..I know it...dang can't even believe the dead anymore...oh Stop Puhleaze...he would be the first to laugh...its those left...ya can't believe...And they call me nuts...see Silver Lining PlayBook…..meds...bah...a spiritual lobotomy...deal and create...succumb and stay dumb...perfection limits...imperfection creates...chew on that...then...wait... seminal genesis...it relates deeper than fate...even Krishnamurti suffered thru the Process and sometimes otherness...the Process was a searing pain in the head...otherness was a mystical place often conjoined with the Process...as a comforter...my process is not so much pain but a wavering sensation as tho my mind was floating on a calm sea...Lil Richard will back me on this...He gots the Shining just like lil Danny...and Scatman Crothers...HEY...I'm talking here...lol

BB another great "Lodge film a classic" Somewhere in Time...tho I thought the ending scene should have had them both old as they walkedaway into the shining...it would in its own way...reinforce fidelity not an EZ thing to maintain...but...well...
