Survived biopsy #3

Well back from biopsy #3
Both good and bad seemed bit more painful specially last 3 samples(15) and now got diarria
But no blood in urine last time was scary bad(me) but docs not concerned. They make me piss twice before they let me go(longest part of whole thing but nice nurses)
Doc does not see a reason for change from last time. Will find out in a week. Did ask bout spreading out biopsy and said if 3 neg biopsy their protocol allows every other year with mri in between
Will discus further when get results

So hoping for the bedtbon biopsy result

Also they want me to do bladder pressure test. This is for urinary issues. Have low erratic flow bu do empty bladder. Takin flowmax for couple weeks

Yes, as the veteran of 9 biopsies, I can confirm that the last few cores are always the worst. My take is:

(1) The nerve block may be starting to wear off as the time increases.

(2) With each additional core, there is accumulated insult to the prostate which produces a generalized, gradually increasing feeling of discomfort/dull pain -- this is the sensation you feel between each "snap" of the spring-loaded needle punch;

(3) Some uros work faster than others, and the total time obviously also depends on the total number of cores. The longer the total time and the more cores, the more generalized discomfort/pain accumulates. Sometimes there is difficulty loading the the needle for the next core, or unloading it into the specimen cup, which adds to the time.

(4) I believe the uro works from the apex to the base, so the last cores are those closest to the nerve plexus (where the anesthesia was injected), which is the tenderest area;

(5) Having had a number of different uros over a 25-year span, I've concluded that they are not all equally skilled in administering the nerve block -- the accuracy of hitting the nerve plexus on both sides probably affects the efficacy.

I used to talk to the doc during the procedure, which took my mind off the sensation. I also would joke before the biopsy and tell my doc that the phrase of the day is "work fast!"

So far, only one for me (with eighteen cores). A nice nurse talked to me throughout the procedure, which was comforting.

The medal came in the form of a very early diagnosis! To me that was all the reward I'll ever need. I never once said "Well, that was unnecessary," when a biopsy came back negative. I trusted my uros that their biopsy requests were done for my benefit and not their vacation fund.

Recovering from my (open) RP I sometimes had a twinge at the tip of my penis, which my uro/surgeon confirmed was referred pain (when pain is felt at a location other than where the source of the pain is). However, I don't remember that ever happening during a biopsy. I believe the shoulder twinges that post RALP guy sometimes have is referred pain from the residual air used to inflate the area during the procedure.

True penis story. In grade school we had a substitute teacher one day. At the start of the class, she went to the board and wrote a sentence in all caps and asked who knew what it meant. You need to know I was at the very end of the first row which was very close to the board, so I was looking at the board from an extreme angle. I could NOT believe what I was seeing, until I realized her spacing wasn't the best:

I assumed that pain descibed is from inflamation of urethra somehow from sampling
Sitting here now hours later still feel it. As i said mild but annoying
Will subside in a day or so
Anyway youre story is one of many that tells me to keep diligent. Low vol g6 and low and stable psa then n finding g10
