A thought, hopefully a little humorous, on the "energetic exchanges," shall we say, that have been happening between our forum comrades BillyBob and Buddy Blank.
Logoslidat has occasionally raised the idea of synchronicity in matters, and I think that may apply here, as only yesterday I was reading about
something which could describe the interactions that have been going on between our two BB's, in an analogous manner. That's why I'm making this post.
I was reading the Roman poet Martial's account of the Colosseum battle that occurred between two real-life gladiators Verus and Priscus in 80 A.D. during the reign of the emperor Titus.
The account goes that Verus and Priscus were actually good friends (remember, these were real people) but had somehow been matched to fight each other in the arena before the emperor and the Roman populace.
Reluctantly they did so, but they were so evenly matched, that their fighting went on and on until they were both completely exhausted, virtually down on their knees, and then the emperor, presumably at the vociferous urging of the Colosseum crowd to do so, saw fit to declare the match a draw. He then freed both of them on the spot, by presenting each with a symbolic wooden sword, the sign of their new-found freedom.
So by analogy, perhaps we can think of BB and BB as our two valiant gladiators who have now fought to a draw, and can leave the arena proudly with wooden swords held high.
Okay, sort of odd for an analogy I admit, but the way some online "debates" go, sometimes on this forum and often on others as we have all no doubt seen, maybe this isn't such a bad way to describe how these online "debates" can go:
