Version 1.0 Vaccine or Version 1.1?

My parents, born during the World War II era, often speak about "lining up" --- in the days of their youth --- to receive Dr. Jonas Salk's polio vaccine in the 1950s.

It was a gamechanger ...

We now await a similar situation ... the vaccine that will help the world "turn the corner" ... change the narrative ... and start a new life chapter for everyone.

Being a public school teacher, I already envision our school nurses busily updating immunization records for the hundreds of school children in my district ...

Imagine the lessening of fear in college dormitories, factories, hospitals, care centers, assembly lines, senior retirement communities, medical clinics, daycare centers, and schools ... as more and more citizens roll up their sleeves ... when a safe, proven, and effective vaccine becomes available.

I am counting down the days ... we'll get there.

I can't wait to hear that BREAKING NEWS report ... when the F.D.A. eventually approves a safe vaccine ...

I await the antidote ... the remedy ... the ELIXIR !

I hope, too, that impoverished areas of the globe will have free access to the vaccine, as well ...

My main doctor is from Kenya, and his life story ... as well as the award-winning book entitled A LONG WALK TO WATER, inspired by true events --- has inspired me to work on projects that bring medical supplies and fresh water wells to impoverished areas of the globe.

My hope is that when the vaccine becomes approved, that EVERYONE ... globally ... can have access to it!

Every day, we are surely getting one day closer to a safe and effective vaccine!

Reading Cyclones post made me wonder how everyone felt at the time of the polio vaccine.

if there was something like polio out there that could cripple my kids....the relief everyone felt must have been amazing!

Hope the antivaxxers have a change of heart, and get the vaccine, so we can get real herd immunity, but given how crazy everything has become, I have my doubts.

Given the large numbers and vehemence of anti-vaccination proponents, I doubt that it will be difficult for anyone who wants it to get a Covid-19 vaccine once it's available. They'll probably start $20 gift card giveaways to get more folks to participate.

Later, many of us lined up for the multi vaccine shots given by an air gun in Basic Training. We had at least three guys pass out getting their shots in our company. I wonder if they still use those things?

The blowback from those air guns is why the VA is now testing everyone for Hep-C.

I was all set to say I'll be right in line for the first shots especially after assurances from Dr. Fauci that this will be FDA approved therefore safe for us to jump right in. But I heard an interview this morning from another epidemiologist who was concerned that the rushed FDA approval for this vaccine includes a low threshold for effectiveness, i.e. 50% effective. His commentary predicted that later versions would be more effective and require fewer shots.

Nevertheless, I will probably still be an early recipient if I can get it...even though that probably means added shots or boosters later. I guess (hope) something is better than nothing...

In addition to Fauci, the head of the NIH also yesterday stated that no corners have been or will be cut, particularly regarding safety.
