My favorite thing to do is get out and hike, but I live in Kansas.
What's wrong with Kansas, nothing I love my state.
But this is summer time, and it's hot and humid here.
I can deal with heat but humidity is tough. I ran the Duluth, MN marathon some years ago and it was brutal, especially considering that I train in Montana where anything over 20% humidity feels wet. I do most all of my running in the mornings, getting out between 5:30 and 6:30 am. And even though people think of Montana as mountains and forests, I live in the largest city and it’s On the prairie. Some trees but LOTS of trails, rimrocks, sagebrush, and the occasional rattlesnake.
Regarding TV, I suppose that it was Jerry Mander’s book “Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television” in 1978 that pushed me in that direction. Never a big watcher (more of a radio junkie) I just gave it up and never looked back. I do realize that I lack a certain amount of cultural information as a result but I’ve gained in other areas. When I was teaching (high school) students would make many references to TV shows and I’d simply have to ask them to explain. No, I’ve never seen MASH, Friends, Frazier, Game of Thrones, the Super Bowl or ANY reality show. Even when I was in a hotel in Ohio recuperating from RALP for a week, I never turned on the TV. I read a stack of books and worked on a whole series of drawings in my sketchbook.
As for the sports spectator thing, and this is just me, I find it weird that people feel proud, get a sense of accomplishment, and a boost in self-esteem when “their team” is successful.
