It's Friday

Goldberg grew up in a very small town and was the first to attend college in the big city. He became a doctor and his fame grew. Eventually the town elders got wind of his notoriety and invited him back to speak to the whole town as an honored favorite son.

Although the day of the speech on the town square was windy, the entire town had turned out. At one point Dr. Goldberg's notes blew off the lectern, and when he bent to pick them up he emitted a notable fart directly into the microphone. Mortified, he nonetheless managed to finish his speech, after which he hurried to his car and left town.

Many years later he had to come back to finalize his mother's estate. But remembering the last time, he decided to check into the town's one hotel under the name Smith. The desk clerk asked him if he'd been to the town before and the new Mr. Smith allowed as how he'd grown up there, but that an embarrassing incident some years later had kept him away.

The clerk smiled broadly: "But Mr. Smith, whatever it was I'm sure you're building it up too much. People here are nice, we're friendly and very welcoming. No matter what you think happened, I'm sure it's all just so much water under the bridge."

Mr. Smith sighed and told the clerk that he was probably right, but that the whole thing was still just too painful. More chitchat ensued until the clerk got curious.

"Hey so Mr. Smith, how long ago was it that you were back here?"

Smith told him it was quite a few years ago but that he couldn't remember exactly.

The clerk: "Well, do you know if it was before or after The Goldberg Fart?"

Dave (2019) --The fart is a perfect subject for a well-constructed joke. Mrs. Byrnes Dictionary of Unusual, Obscure and Preposterous Words defines a Xylophonist as a patient who disturbs other patients with his obnoxious farting. When we cared for our grandchildren pre-Covid, my 3-year-old grandson would run to the other room to announce to all present that I had just farted. Keep up the good jokes. Alas, I don't have any this week, but my occasional research for a good joke keeps my mind off Covid and politics.

There's controversy for the effect of cow flatulence on global warming. I have never seen information on the potential human contribution. As the link below to a South Park clip shows, some San Fraciscans aren't taking any chances. Better to inhale your fart than release it to the atmosphere.
