there are 30 other "forums" besides Pca on HW

I've had a part time/homebased business for 22 years - MODERATING and Administering online community forums.

I can tell you beyond a doubt, that locked/deleted etc threads are directly related to threads that have posts that VIOATE the RULES. They either violate the rules or are so off center that the poster should be SHOT.

I was a moderator here for a year or so several years ago and stepped down because we didn't have enough "juice" to get the job done.

Considering why we're here... One would think this should be a very easy site to moderate....

We have roughly the same lock rate as the post rate in at least one other forum I've posted to. There, I've had zero replies to a post that has over 1000 views,

Sure can, podner. I posted in the forum just over 4 months ago. Since then it has had 1000 views and 0 replies.There have been about 10 new posts since then. I guess their post rate is higher than our lockdown rate. Perhaps I exaggerated. Maybe our lockdown rate is higher than their reply rate.

There are only a small handful of members that cause locked threads. It’s the same VERY few, and they know who they are. They like to stir the pot. There used to be a few more, but they are no longer members.

Generally speaking, we mods lock threads when they violate the rules, which are posted for anyone who is interested in reading them. In fact, there have been many instances when rules have been broken and we have NOT locked threads, feeling that with the stress we’ve been under the last year, we should allow for us to blow off some steam as needed.

Its real simple logos. To answer your question in the original post, If nobody breaks the rules, threads don’t get locked. Sometimes it’s a little grey, and we need to make what amounts to judgement calls. In those cases, I know I , and I’m sure the other Mods question themselves extensively before locking a thread.
We don’t make the rules, we follow them.

I was actually going lock this thread, I doubt anything good can come of it from this point on, that was my first inclination. But I don’t want to be a hard***. So as long as it doesn’t turn hostile, I’ll leave it open so everyone can have their say.

This board is pretty tame and nearly 99% on topic.

If you want to see rough and tumble head over to a type 1 diabetes forum, where mothers will defend to the death their way of caring for their type 1 kids.

If you think the radiation vs ralp argument gets hot, you havent seen anything until you see two competent moms start “discussing” the pros and cons of various diabetes management strategies for their child.

There was one board where one group of moms actually called child protective services on another parent because they thought he was putting his kid in danger using a (way) different method than they did to manage his childs T1D.

So yeah.

Once upon a time....when we had an older version of the forum software - you could see the LOCKED rather easily. ow you have to drill down to inside a thread like this one to see it.

@ Jim/Tud, no worries, you can blame it on me , I usually get the blame for everything around my house, so I’m used to it Lol. BTW, I got my bonus. Heck today for locks and deletes. Did you get yours?
