Well I just got my latest PSA numbers after my 5th treatment and it went down again to 43.7. So I had my 6th treatment on Tuesday and yesterday I started feeling bad and woke up with another UTI. Everytime I have Chemo I get a UTI does anyone else have this problem. Of course it is Saturday and I will not be able to get in touch with my doctor. Last time he had to give me Fosfomycin Tromethamine a oral infusion very expensive but it worked in 3 days, but I have no refills.

Thankful your PSA took another tumble, Jerry ...

During my chemotherapy treatments, my doctor said to keep an overnight travel bag packed with essentials, just in case I spiked a fever or got an infection.

He said anything over 100 degrees meant I needed to get to the emergency room, at once. He said they would call him to consult, day or night. Dedicated doctor, beyond words!

I once spiked a fever --- he said to get to the clinic immediately and to bring the overnight travel bag. In the end, he didn't admit me to the hospital, but telephoned me the next day to check in.

I was also put on NEULASTA injections, to help ward off infections. As a teacher, I was surrounded by hundreds of students, each school day, so that was a consideration, too.

I realize it's the weekend, but is there a health desk number you could telephone at the clinic? Could you go to the emergency room and get the treatment started for the infection?

My doctor was VERY cautionary when I went through chemotherapy ---- it might be the weekend, but is there an urgent care clinic that could get a treatment started, to begin combatting the infection?

When my wife went through chemo, twice. Each time the respective doctor called her each day after the infusion to see how she was doing. Her second bout used Neulasta and with her first injection she had an adverse reaction and the MO met her at the emergency room on a Saturday to help. But she never had an UTI or any other infection.

Jerry, to me this shows you are very compromised and I think the docs should be more proactive as you report the UTI as serial events. Seems like they could prepare you instead of reacting after the fact. I feel for you. I have never had an UTI, but my wife has and I understand it can be nasty.

Will you continue with chemo? Have you considered Provenge? Have other Mets been identified? Can they be radiated? Sorry if these have been answered, but I don’t remember all your details. I certainly wish you well and it is encouraging to see the PSA reduce. Praying for your comfort.

Yes I have had multiple radiation treatments that left me with Radiation cycstis and incontinent since it destroyed the lining of my bladder. I am also hormone resistant and have tried them all, that is why my oncologist wants me to have 10 chemo treatments with taxotere instead of the normal 6. He wants to try and get it as low as possible to give me more time. I have had the Neulasta patch with my other two treatments but my white count was so high that they decided not to give it to me this time. It did not make any difference I still crashed after 3 days and got another UTI. I don’t have much choice continuing the chemo since nothing else works for me I have so much radiation damage that is out. Thank you for reaching out.

Is there an on call number you can reach? Did the hospital provide you a list of numbers to call in case of an emergency?

Good to hear that the PSA is responding, Jerry. And when in doubt, I use an urgent care near me for medical problems, when everything else is closed. A UTI is not fun.

Well the doctor called in the oral infusion for me and I started taking it right away hopefully it works on the UTI as well as it did last time.
