The good news is that they all survived - maybe because they were, in fact, vaccinated.

I think I might have had covid-19 in January 2020. Annoying cough that hung around for a couple weeks. The doc prescribed some azithromycin and it cleared in about 5 days. My Vit D levels are at a sweet spot - around 65. I take zinc, Vit C, Vit A and Vit D daily. I've been around a couple people who had covid-19 and didn't catch it from them. I decided to hold off on the vaccine for the time being. Once it comes off EUA and is fully FDA approved I will reconsider. I understand that could be as early as September. I fully respect the decision of those who take the vaccine. Everyone has to make their own calculated choice. It's a real shame that it escaped from the Wuhan Lab - because it appears it or it's variants are going to be around for awhile. We've had coronaviruses around for many decades. Never had a vaccine formulated until 2020 and, boy, it sure hit the market fast. As Prato said, seems like even those vaccinated are getting infected. Hope they can find a long-term solution. It would be a real pain getting a booster every 3-6 months. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Good luck to all.

The vaccine is the result of many years of research into the technology that created it. The hoopla around its announcement made it seem like is was real fast, but it is just a recent result of years of serious DNA/RNA research. Politics = smokescreen.

The actual way it works is really neat though.

Are you calling TJ123 crazy? No doubt me also, even though I am double vaxed, but have some significant concerns about how wise that decision of mine was. I will never know why these discussions have to go downhill so quickly with the ad hominem attacks.

I did not know boosters are being offered. Considering that I felt no ill effects at all from the shots, I will get a booster when I can.

I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for years. As such, I probably know a little more about the FDA approval process than the average bear. And I know a little about past research and the failed studies on coronavirus vaccines, before coronavirus became a household word. I've decided to error on the side of caution for the time being. There are many, many unanswered questions. I won't go into detail here. You seem to be a research guy. You've probably read the recent papers. Just let me say that if I buy a new car and the trannie falls out on the freeway while going 70 and I wind up on life support - my family could hold the car manufacturer to account. But if I throw a clot or have a massive coronary or suffer from some undetermined long-term side effect from a vaccine - the pharmaceutical industry is immune from liability. There's a reason the vaccine has not been fully approved yet and still operates under the EUA status. When and if that approval happens, as I said, I will give the injection heightened consideration. There are good arguments on both sides. And, as I wrote, I respect those who decided to take the shot based on their individual situations. Everyone is different.

Now, if all that makes me crazy - that's fine. Call me crazy. ha. Water off a duck's back.

In many ways we are, all of us, participating in the biggest clinical trial in history. We are either vaccinated and in the treatment group, or we are unvaccinated and in the control group. That is an unpleasant, perhaps even brutal way to put it, but it is the reality.

The outcome of this trial is playing out in real time, as we watch. Tremendous amounts of data are feeding into the CDC, the FDA, the drug companies, and on and on.

To JNF, the breakthrough infections are concerning--and the good news is that it does seem that for the most part the vaccines do prevent us from getting hospitalized and dying--which is an absolute good thing. And, I think it's also true that we will be dealing with Covid-19 and it's offspring forever.

The way Fauci explained it (if you are in the camp that thinks Fauci is a fraud i can't help you LOL) after vaccination, there are not a lot of virus fighting antibodies in the nasal passages and surrounding area, and thats why we can be infected. However there are a lot of antibodies, or enough to fight off infection, in the lungs, which is where the trouble starts. So breakthrough infections are mild. On some alternate universe level, i almost want to get it now, because it will likely be mild, and i might as well get it over with, plus i will likely have increased immunity. (But thats on an alternate universe level, i really dont want to get it). My wife developed a sore throat today, so who knows.

Regarding the booster, brought up by Tudpock/Jim, yes, i thought of getting it too. For now, i am hesitating, i dont like cheating the system. Also, i am thinking they have to be working on tweaking the mRNA vaccines to adjust for Delta, maybe i should wait till that is included in the booster. But i could wake up tomorrow and decide to get boosted.

The one concern is even with mild breakthrough cases, there is a chance of ending up with long Covid, most think its between 20-30% for adults, less for kids. That would be really bad.

I should also mention, my 25 year old niece who got Covid after vax, had Covid very early in the pandemic. Like in the first two months. She and her mom didnt feel right for about a week. At the time, there were no tests, and they werent even thinking about Covid. But as thinkgs started to develop they began to wonder, so they both went for Antibody tests, lo and behold, they both tested positive for the antibodies.

But if anyone thinks for a second we will eliminate the virus by a round or two of vaccine they are either very misinformed or smoking too much of the goodies! Even Fauci warned last week that the coming variants could easily escape the current vaccines and that we must be prepared to live with this virus indefinitely.

Here we go again. Surely you jest? The current most prevelent variant is delta, but does that matter? The people who are hospitalized/on ventilators/dying are those who are (largely) unvaxed. The vaxed folks have much better outcomes. The medicos are pleading with folks to get vaxed and follow the masked/social distancing options we have already mentioned ad infinitum.

Do you perchance mean those who got ill with the virus and recovered? Many who got ill and were not vaccinated got VERY ill and also got some possibly permanent symptoms. Many did not recover.

I worked for the Navy in public affairs. Our office published the base newspaper. We would every week print guidance from the safety department: wear seatbelts, don't smoke, watch out for black ice and so on.
It eventually occurred to me that this type of guidance (e.g., get vaxed) doesn't work because the appeal is generally to the rational side of the mind, whereas many people live their lives using the other side of their brain....the side that governs actions emotionally rather than rationally or logically.
You can present every logical argument to a smoker, and they will not quit. The rational side of their brain knows that smoking is illogical and dangerous, but their "will" is not engaged, so they continue to smoke.
When it comes to getting the COVID vaccine, these people hear the rational, logical arguments, but it's not their practice to live according to logic and reason. They hear, but their will, their emotional side, leads them in the other direction or prevents them from doing what the rational side of their brain tells them is the right thing, the smart thing, the correct thing to do.
Most of us follow the science and get vaccinated, but a significant number of people are simply not moved or persuaded by science or logic. They "feel" that they know better.
Human beings are complicated and strange creature.
