I hope everyone chooses to be vaccinated. I believe it’s the safest way to control this virus.
That said, I do believe every medication comes with side effects and risks. On February 25 my wife and I had our second Moderna vaccine. My wife decided to take Tylenol before going to bed while I decided none needed since both of us had no reaction to the first shot. She woke up feeling fine while I had a temperature of 101.6 and was feeling a little crummy. I took Tylenol and felt fine afterwards. I went about
a normal morning and even took the car to the mechanic to get a new battery. My wife and I enjoyed a very nice lunch and I planned on going to the YMCA that evening.
My wife heard a crash in the kitchen loud enough that she thought I pulled over the refrigerator. She came into the kitchen to find me unconscious on the floor. She determined that I had a pulse and was breathing and she called 911 for an ambulance. She saw some white on my lips and thought possibly I was having a seizure and the noticed an
open ice cream container on the counter and guessed that’s why I went into the kitchen.
I was taken to our local hospital and evaluated. All they knew was they had an unconscious old man with an unobserved fall. The hospital ran blood tests, X-rays and CT scans and determined I had subdural and subarachnoid brain bleeds and called in a helicopter to fly me to a major hospital with a trauma unit. A priest gave me last rights. I have no recollection of any of this. When I asked me wife if I was unconscious she said, “you’re eyes were
open when the ambulance guys got here, and you were answering simple questions; but, it was like the lights were on but nobody was home”.
After much testing including the brain trauma team the diagnosis was that I had experienced a perfect storm resulting in Vasovagal syncope. I simply and suddenly fainted with the fall resulting in trauma to my brain. The event was triggered by low blood pressure. The low blood pressure was a result of the low grade fever from the vaccine as well as my normal blood pressure pill reaching maximum effect at the time of my fall.
I believe the diagnosis to be correct following discussion with the brain trauma team. They collectively reached that conclusion after studying my CT scans and determining my scans were the result of trauma from the fall and not the bleeds causing the fall.
I share this experience simply to point out that any medication including vaccination can come with unusual and unexpected side effects. My case was uniquely rare and my only regret is that I did not pay the vaccination the respect it was due.
My brain bleeds were monitored with CT scans and over a period of seven weeks were absorbed and healed and I have no side effects that I’m aware of. I did finish that quart of butter pecan ice cream about
a week later and after my discharge from the hospital. I urge you all to give some respect to any medication you take.
