Blood in Semen

Hello All,
Rather than adding this to my already long past thread I just wanted to recap and add this new symptom to my three month long burning when urinating problem. I have had a scoping by my urologist last week. He said urenthra and prostate looked ok with maybe some slight cystitis going on. I was given antibiotics about a month ago for a UTI which was diagnosed when my urine was sent off and cultured. I take uribel most days to help with burning when urinating. Burning stops when urination is finished. After three months I have just learned to live with it.

Now this morning I have for the first time seen red blood in my Semen. Scary to see this but having lived through about ten kidney stones in my lifetime I have seen worse. I of course have prostate cancer and had Brachytherapy about two years ago. Now I have this new symptom which may explain why I have burning everyday of my life now!! Is there and chance scoping could be the cause of this? I would not think so and dr only looked at urethra, prostate and bladder. I would think this blood is coming from somewhere else as I have no blood in urine. I am at a loss.

I will call my urologist again tomorrow request to be seen--again!! No blood when urinating. Only blood in semen. No pain after sex. No infection at my last uro appointment last week for scoping. I would love any advice and or ideas as to what is going on please. I will get in to the dr as soon as possible.

I would think that it depends on the amount of blood you are seeing. The scoping could of caused some small irritation. Before my first DX of PC I had quite a bit of blood in my semen over a year. That of course was because of early stage cancer. Also, are you on any blood thinners? I am, and the smallest cut bleeds like crazy now. I would however get back to your Uro and tell him what’s happening, just for peace of mind. Best wishes.

I am waiting on a call from the dr to see about getting in a bit quicker as it seems to take six months to get an appointment these days. Sorry for the exaggeration it just seems to take forever.

No weight lifting for me. I have a few health issues so the only exercise I get is from walking about an hour each day. Maybe lifting the TV remote from time to time also. Nothing straining going around at my house.

I understand how the urethra, bladder and prostate work in the function of urinating but the rest of the male reproductive system is a bit more complicated so I have no idea where this new fresh blood is coming from. Also I have no idea why I now have burning when urinating everyday for the past three months. Never had this the other sixty three years I have been alive.

Nothing to do I guess but let the dr sort this mess out. I am so glad its not painful every minute of the day. Thank God for small miracles.

That is a very informative response IsitSerious. I had many many seeds placed in my prostate about two years ago. Let me ask you as well as anyone else here who might know--Are not the seeds placed completely throughout the prostate? Would not this radiation kill any cancer in my prostate? Is there a chance my prostate could still be cancerous with a PSA of .06? Honestly gentlemen I have no idea. I intend to find out when I can get in to see my urologist--that is if I dont die first or the world doesnt end while I am waiting!!!

I am so sorry for your Gleason score of 8. I am so sorry it took two plus years to find this. Shameful is it not? I will have to rattle the sabres even louder now!!

Thank you Mumbo for the reply. I am so sorry to hear about your dad and his post op issues. I read all I could find on Brachytherapy and concluded that having issues after seed implants was almost negligible. I guess I did not read enough or my sources were tainted. I also posted here and did not receive any adverse comments on Brachytherapy. I know that all modes of treatments carry their own demons.

As I have no idea what is going on I will endeavor to find some answers. There are many many uros at Urology of Virginia. Surely someone will be able to help me. Perhaps its time to call my oncologist and talk with him. Should I let my urologist pinpoint the cause of the bleeding before consulting with my oncologist? Should I visit them both independently and hope one of them can help me?

The last five or so years of my life have been a real challenge. Like most here I was hoping to never look back after my cancer treatment. I had to have spinal fusion for DDD with more surgery on the horizon. I have also had numerous broken bones due to osteoporosis including my pelvis. Lastly living with Polymyalgia Rheumatica has kept me up many nights in pain. For me my golden years are not so golden.
