Has anyone heard of Free Hand Positioning Device for prostate biopsy. I was reading an article about this new technique that was given the go ahead. It supposedly reduces sepsis infections and hospitalizations over traditional biopsy procedures. The reason I am asking for help on this is because while reading the article I was taken away and when I returned I couldn’t get the article back. It sounded very promising. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

If so, I used Free Hand Positioning Device for prostate biopsy to find it and other articles on the subject.

Thanks Steve, that is not the one I had started to read, but yours is better. It seemed at first that this was a new procedure still in a trial, but given the go ahead by some agency. I wonder now if it is out of trial. Thanks again.

The transperineal procedure is supposed to minimize the chance of infection compared to the transrectal procedure.
I can't judge whether the hand positioning device adds anything with respect to the risk of infection.

The Precision Point transperineal biopsy device is a free-hand biopsy system that is standard protocol at Johns Hopkins, MSKCC, and UCLA, and others.

It has had near-zero infections and does not require antibiotics. I have had two of them.

Steve, Sr sailor and ASA thanks a bunch. ASA, just curious, were you in a trial when you had the last two Biopsies? If not, and if the new procedure is that good, why are they still doing the older procedures with the greater chance of infection? Thanks again,
