My wife and I both came down with Covid this past January. She is Type I diabetic and has immunity issues and ended up hospitalized for 6 days with very low oxygen levels and had to be on oxygen for months after her release.

I had just gotten my PCa dx in December and thus had quit my TRT and I’m sure my T-level was already way below normal. I was hospitalized two days after her, even though my only symptom was high fever. Once they Rx the progesterone I was Superman. Never slept and finished a John Grisham book in one night. Never completely lost taste or smell. So, fortunately the low-T did not seem to worsen the situation.

I might be part of that study as Dr Dhindsa is my endocrinologist at WashU. I’ll have to mention to him next month that I saw the study. Maybe he’ll think I read all the Med Journals in my free time. 😂

I am alert during the day, but don't have all my usual "vim and vigor" ~ but am able to putter around.

I'm thankful I could get the 5-day course of PAXLOVID jump-started from the "get-go" ~~~ I think it's helping.

My oncologist looks after me like a brother. Ironically, my daily dose of ZYTIGA (Abiraterone Acetate) is contraindicated while taking PAXLOVID, so I was told to take the 5-day course of PAXLOVID ~ but to push "pause" on the ZYTIGA for 5 days.

Meanwhile, I am to continue taking the low-dose PREDNISONE which always accompanies ZYTIGA.

Appreciative of my doctor who checked through all my current medications, checking for contraindications, before prescribing PAXLOVID for corona virus.

I think getting a "corona" action plan discussed in advance with your doctor is a great option. Many of us see our doctors regularly.

When my symptoms appeared ~ no advance warning ~ I just put the plan in place & my doctor got the ball rolling without delay. I had an at-home test kit already.

Maybe something in my story will help another fellow out there ~ in the weeks and months ahead. I continue to hear of more cases ~ with family, friends, and at my school.

I think the congestion is better ~ no headaches ~ no deep respiratory issues ~ but my "teaching voice" remains froggy ~ so I taking all this week off & next weekend I will take it easy, because I don't want a rebound case.

Ice water and cold tea are my new best friends ~ and icy lemonade is my elixir for voice restoration ~ so important for my days in the classroom.

My brother and I are both teachers and we both figured it was just a "matter of time" until corona knocked on the door for each of us.

Sure enough, we both contracted corona already, & both of us got a prescription for PAXLOVID, without delay.

Cyclone, glad you are on the mend. I thought a great Cyclone victory over their rival would have been an instantaneous cure! I'm sure it helped a lot. Wishing you a continued recovery.

Well, in the annual CY-HAWK rivalry, the Iowa HAWKEYES have had "bragging rights" for the past six years.

Iowa State CYCLONE fans are loyal & patient! They pulled off a win ~ it wasn't "pretty" ~ but the trophy traveled back to Ames!

Iowa has no professional sports teams, so college sports are a BIG DEAL here, locally!

The annual CY-HAWK rivalry game is nicknamed "Iowa's 'Super Bowl' " and always highly anticipated!

Dang ~ thanks to corona ~ I didn't have my cheering voice this year!

But, I am battling back!

I think the Hawkeyes may do best this year by surrending the ball and allowing the defence to score.

As usual, I have had no symptoms from my COVID shot Friday, even with getting a flu shot in the other shoulder. Apparently, those of us in the low T club need to stay on top of things.

I just saw an interview with a doctor on national news who stated it's perfectly acceptable to get the new corona booster and one's annual flu vaccine at the same time.

My doctor always says early October is what he recommends for my annual flu shot, helping me stay "covered" through a typical school year!

UPDATE, for the good of the cause ...

I'm on the 5th & final day of the PAXLOVID anti-viral prescription ...

In the end, 3 of my daily medications were contraindicated:

* ZYTIGA (Abiraterone Acetate)
* PREDNISONE (taken with ZYTIGA)
* TAMSULOSIN (generic version of FLOMAX)

So - I was instructed to pause these 3 medications while taking the PAXLOVID for its 5 day course.

If you start PAXLOVID for corona virus, it's best to make sure which current medications you take are not contraindicated.

Back to my regular medication regimen tomorrow.

I took a walk last evening and hope to take a couple of walks today.

Onward, upward!

Glad to hear you're sailing through Covid.
I'm afraid it sounds like it's here to stay, but hopefully with minimal mortality rates from here on out.

Cyclone, glad to hear you are doing ok. It seems from my conversation with friends, the one thing that most commonly lingers longer than others, is some level of fatigue.

Hopefully you will be as good as new soon

I am on Day 3/4 of my Covid adventure since returning from France. Sure glad I made it home first. My doctor said I could go either way on Paxlovid and ordered it for me if I needed it. So far it sucks but nothing I have not felt before with flu and colds. Days 4 & 5 are Thurs and Friday so my plan was to not compound side effects if not needed. If I start going downhill, I will pick it up tomorrow or Friday.

Hello, Mumbo ~

I finished the 5-day course of PAXLOVID last evening.

3 pills every morning, 3 more at night ~ for 5 days.

My insurance covered the prescription, and I noticed the retail price was $60.00 for the 5-day prescription.

I drink lots of water with all my medications, and did the same with PAXLOVID.

My oncologist said we weren't going to "mess around" if I got corona, so we had already discussed getting PAXLOVID prescribed.

My brother is also an educator and he had corona within days of starting his new school year. He has underlying health concerns of his own, so he went right on PAXLOVID, as well.

We both viewed it as a new line of defense.

Stay rested & hydrated! I'm ramping back up!

I'm feeling 100% & back to teaching school each day since having corona.

Saw my oncologist today ~ we agreed having the PAXLOVID plan worked out in advance was prudent.

My breathing was 100% today at my check-up.

My energy is back to 100% & I am taking trail walks again.

Important to note ~ my oncologist recommends I wait about three months to get the new corona booster, since I recently had corona.

He is also an expert in infectious disease, so I felt this was worth sharing.

He DID say today was a perfect day to get my annual flu shot, so I got that today!

Great news cyclone, I am glad you and your doc worked it out in advance. My wife and I got the new Pfizer booster two days ago. We have both had no side effects. It looks like this will be a yearly booster. If you can get the flu shot at the same time, you would think they could combine the two. In any case, my best to you and your great immune system.

I too finally caught COVID. First time I’ve had it. Have been very careful. Not too bad yet. Waiting fir a call back from Dr as I’ll I’ve taken so far is the home test. Concerned as I just had my lu177 infusion Sept 16th.

After having corona virus in September, my oncologist recommended I wait about three months to get the latest corona booster.

I drove to the pharmacy after school on Friday, and getting the booster was easy-breezy ...

I did this on Friday afternoon, just in case I needed a day to rebound ...

All went well & I experienced no side effects from the booster.

Sounds like a new variant is making the rounds, so I feel my stop by the pharmacy was timely!

With me being at school all day, with hundreds of students and staff, I felt this was a proactive step ...

Takin' care of business, as they say!
