Testing Interruption of Hormonal Medications in Patients Responding Exceptionally to Therapy for Metastatic Prostate Cancer, (A-DREAM) NCT05241860

Hope that link worked. If not someone will fix. I am not in the trial but I skipped my 6 month lupron shot in June 2022. On June 3, 2022 I took my last abiraterone. Still testing <0.01. Feeling much better after 4+ years of treatment even though my T has only recovered to 50 so far. Scary? You bet. Some guys have reported on their medication vacations here. Others have said "if it's working, why stop?" Very personal decision like surgery vs radiation. I definitely had brain fog and it is definitely gone. Hot flashes are reduced but not gone. Fatigue factor is way down but I "sleep" about 9 hours. Thought I'd lose some weight but that has not happened. Tackling that next after I have some ice cream tonight. Life is short. Eat dessert first. Remember my life motto: If you aren't laughing, you aren't living.

After ten years of lupron I can certainly understand making a decision like that. Keep us posted and wishing you a great outcome. Enjoy the ice cream.

Great information GoBucks, thanks for sharing the experience.

More than a decade ago PCa medical oncologists Robert Leibowitz and Snuffy Meyers separately wrote about the benefits they found with advanced stage patients using intermittent ADT. They posited that it helped to extend time before refraction, continued to manage disease progression and improved quality of life. We have had other men on the forum, including Todd, that have used ADT vacations effectively. Hope it works well for you and that others can consider the method appropriately. Good to see there is finally a clinical trial for the concept.

if your T is that low is lupron even necessary?

F8, I don't know the answer to that question. But I'm sure some low T guys get Pca so I imagine lupron is always a prescribed thereapy (among others). Although I believe there are trials ongoing for abiraterone monotherapy and the other newest drugs.

For Enzalutamide (Xtandi) the EMBARK trial has an arm looking at Enzalutamide monotherapy vs Lupron + Enzalutamide for high risk nmhs PCa. The trial has been going on for quite awhile. In March they say they have "top shelf" results, but the full presentation will be at a "future scientific meeting."

Keep up your Zytiga vacation if it's working for you! Since June 3, 2022? thats 10 months already, Good going. Even Mr. Tood1963 took a Zytiga vacation for a while , PSA rose slightly , and for now he is back on it, I think.

For me 100 months with a few weeks off here and there.

Each case is different, with its own inherent complexities and factors ...

If new approaches are NEVER tried, nothing new will ever be gleaned.
