For a recently diagnosed person who was initially leaning toward surgery but wants to consider radiation as an alternative — whether EBRT/IMRT, or SBRT, or Brachytherapy— can someone here recommend an expert radiation oncologist in the Washington, DC area (or I suppose Hopkins in Baltimore might be OK too)? Thank you for any suggestions.

Dr Sean Collins at Georgetown Medical Center. He is an SBRT specialist but will add second mode therapies (brachy or IMRT), if necessary (see my adventure for some background).

I am a long time participant in Hopkins’ Active Surveillance program, and receive their urology updates. Their emphasis is on surgery. That is their strength. I rarely hear anything about radiation. They have protons, but don’t use it for. Prostate cancer.

Georgetown and GW have long experience with radiation technology, especially SBRT. Talk with them.

Thanks, AS. Yes, I had heard the same about JH's surgery focus. I wonder how things are there these days, with Bal Carter having retired and then Alan Partin having (sadly, and way too young) passed away recently. Pavlovich is apparently running the AS program, in addition to his surgery practice?

If you are in Virginia, consider Dr. Robert Hong at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. He is terrific!
