My 78 year old dad was diagnosed w/PC in early June. It was detected during his annual physical. The doc felt nodules during the exam so he ran a blood test and the PSA came back at 6, which was up from 4 about 6 months ago. Due to his age, the doctor discouraged surgery due to complications at his age. A biopsy was done and his Gleason was calculated at 7 (3 + 4).
At the time, the doc recommended external beam therapy and hormone shots every 3 months. He's since finished w/the radiation and had his 2nd shot a week ago. Outside of the consistent hot flashes, a little fatigue and frequent urination - he pretty much sailed through radiation.
Last Monday, they ran a blood test and the results came in today...his psa levels are at .0002. Hurray!! My sister / brother and I are all excited to bits and couldn't be more thrilled for our dear dad. Unfortunately, mom passed away in June but I'm sure she would have been so happy for him.
Although, he has a blood tests to go, with his fantastic attitude, exercise regimen, prostate vitamin supplements - we're confident he'll continue to keep the "bad bugs away."
Thanks to all of you for your support!
