Husband was sailing along post-daVinci for the first six weeks with 1 pad/day after catheter removal and just an occasional little "oops" squirt with exertion.

Then, he started urinating much more, and then a couple of weeks ago, started leaking badly at varying times of day. Sometimes all morning long, then the next day, it would be in the evenings.

We brought this up with our daVinci doc and he was concerned, stating that frequency shouldn't be happening and leaking shouldn't be getting worse.

On the spot, they numbed and did a bladder check. He said it could be any of three things:

-infection

-scarring

-spasms

The camera showed no indication of the first two, so he put husb. on 30 days of anti-spasm pills. These apparently aren't spasms you "feel." They are the kind that just make you "go." We go back to Austin in 30 days for a follow-up. (They also put him on a 2-day antibiotic as a precaution against infection for the camera look.)

I'm posting this for others who might be experiencing this same thing. We'll keep you posted on progress. Leakage is emotionally discouraging/frustrating/disappointing/you-name-it.

Hi GreenAcres,

I have experienced the same thing, but only a few times, and the leak was minimal. Still it concerned me because I was 6 months post-op. If I was to describe the sensation; it would be a slight spasm almost imperceptible. I hope the meds. work for husb., and he will continue to heal. Please tell husb. to keep his spirits up, and we all wish him the best.

We can relate with it because Jeff will be fine most days, but then other days he just dribbles all day. we're trying to pay more attention to what he's doing and/or drinking those days to see if that makes a difference. just the other day he was sitting on the toilet and no matter what he did, the urine kept dribbling out. he finally said the heck with it and pulled his pants (with a pad) up. I can understand how disappointing this must be and hopefully the pills will do the trick, and you won't have to take them 4-ever either. thanks for bringing it up because if it's happened to you, surely it's happened to others.

Thank you GreenAcres for sharing the experience as discouraging as it must be. Tom just had his catheter removed on Tuesday, and so far (after the first 12 hrs) has only had stress incontinence. He has gone back to work and is afraid to wear anything lighter then the depends briefs yet. I will keep this in mind incase he should start to get worse later on. Good luck with this, I hope it resolves soon.

hey GreenAcres, how are things going now? I saw your post at another thread and thought of this one. I hope the pills are working and that things are better.

Nope. Not better. It's very frustrating, discouraging, and downright, oh, whatever. As we've said time and time again, though - we'll take this over having cancer!

We got spoiled to those first weeks of success. Now, it's fine lying or sitting and not a problem getting up. Just any other type of activity does it. Little control. Have kegeled religiously since way before surgery. So, don't know what's up, but we believe strongly that it will be like many others have experienced - one day it will get better again.

Thanks for asking. Just another one of those "things" ya have to deal with. Repeat with me - "But it beats the heck (substitute the word of your choice here) out of having cancer!"

Well Curtis is doing really good I think since he just got the catheter out last Wednesday.  He has no problems at night and very little problem when getting up if he doesn't wait to long in between bathroom visits and is ok walking around.  He tries to go to the bathroom every hour or so that way his bladder doesn't get to full for him to be able to control.  He did have a couple of drops of blood in his urine this morning, but I expect that's normal at this early stage of recovery.

Hi GreenAcres,

My husband is still dealing with leakage too but he had the open instead of the Divinci so I don't know how comparable they are.  I know it is frustrating for them though and especially hard for your husband after doing so well the first few weeks.  Gordon's has been a good but very gradual improvement.  Like the others have said though, its good to hear these things so the rest of us can be aware of them.

Curtis should to continue drinking a normal amount of fluids and wait until his bladder needs emptying before he goes. At least that's what I thought. At bedtime or when leaving the house for a drive is always a good time to go but otherwise don't they suggest returning back to a normal rountine so the bladder doesn't get lazy or something like that?
