this is Iggy again... about
my surgery... i know the idea of prostate cancer is scarey as hell... but if a person is going to get a cancer.. prostate cancer has one of the highest survival rates.
i do advise anyone with this disease to get a second opinion or even a third. I chose the only viable option for me. i could not take the chance with hormone therapy and radiation... the success rate for that is less than total removal. I was told by my physican that if i undergo radiation instead of surgery if the radiation failed... surgery is no longer an option and i would have to hope that hormone therapy for the rest of my shorten life. and from what i read hormone for a prolonged period is not that successful.
I do advise any male from age 40 to get psa results every year... and insist the doctor tell you the number of your prostate reading... do not just let the doctor tell you your prostate results look ok... make the doc TELL you your numbers... and if it is above 2.. insist for more difinitive tests.... to find out if it is high from a harmless infection or is it high due to cancer...
the one thing i found out is that too many doctors have a different idea as to what is a high psa reading.... there seems to be NO standard set.... it is your life your doc is dealing with and it is up to you to know all the facts so you can make the proper decisions.
Most of all do not be afraid of what is happening... just deal with it and do the proper thing to save your live.
Prostate cancer is curable when caught early.
