Pain at site of drainage tube - DaVinci

I'm on day 4 after a DaVinci RLP, and i was curious if anyone else has had pain in the area where the drainage tube was. I'm not sure if this location is the same for everyone, but my doctor inserted a tube close to my hip bone that ran down my side into the pelvic floor for drainage while i was in the hospital. It was removed the day i was released.

During any strains or sudden movements, such as coughing, i feel a hot searing down my side in that general area. I still have a hole there where the tube was, but the pain runs down that whole location. Is this unusual?

Also, the tube didn't come out so easily due to a slight flange at the end of the tube. When extracting it, the third nurse to attempt it told me to hold my breath, and she popped it out. It only hurt for a couple of minutes at that one spot.

The discomfort sounds pretty normal. A pillow held against the abdomen when you need to cough may help some. A cold pack to the area may help some and of course...any pain medicine you were given during this time of early healing will help too. Feel better quick!

I did not have a burning pain in the area of the drainage tube but I did have an aching there when I walked. It was like the pain you get when you run too much. This lasted for about two weeks and has just about gone away. Give it another few days and see if it does not get better. The more I walked the better my pain got.

Thank you!!!! I do end up holding my hand against my side a lot, applying pressure. It helps a lot. And of course the percocets don't hurt either. lol. I'll try the cold pack!

That's exactly the feeling. When i was a kid, i'd get this pain in my side when i'd run too much....it's just like that, but it's anytime i do anything sudden or work it at all. I'm starting to walk more and more, and i'm sure it'll improve with time. Thanks!

Now you know what we women buy all those foo-foo pillows for that just sit in the corners of the couch! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone. We're off to Knoxville in the morning.
