Some thoughts on PC diagnosis.
One of our top urologists here in Australia does not do biopy via the rectum. I assume his reason is to reduce the problems and infection risk.
Recent diagnostic improvemtnts like "free PSA" are reducing the need for biopsy, and I noticed an article in "Medical News Today" on 19 Sep about "The Diagnostic Center for Disease" opening its headquarters in Sarasota.
They offer the most advanced non invasive detection imaging technology for men who do not want to have random biopsies or who choose active surveillance. They claim accuracy of diagnosis in excess of 85%.
According to Dr Scardino, any given biopsy will detect about 75% of existing cancers, and biopsies have potential problems.
A friend recently had countless biopsies which failed to find anything. He eventually had a TURP and lab results indicated gleason 7 PC, so hopefully improved methods will in many instances.
