My research indicates that HIFU (High Intensity FOcused Ultrasound) is the least evasive treatment with very low risk of incontinence and impotency.  Has anyone had it on this forum?

Hello jajcarro,

Welcome to our group. Yes there have been several members that have had HIFU treatment. The treatment is not yet approved in the US however, but is in the last stage clinical trials, and will probably be certified soon. If you are certain that this is the procedure you wish to have I would strongly urge you to seek it in Canada first, then Western Europe & Japan. Other countries do not have the level of expertise we expect here in the USA. Good luck, and I hope some of our HIFU members respond soon.

Someone had it done in Japan and has posted a detailed thread about his research and the treatmentt. Hopefully another member who reads your comments will remember who it is and the name of the thread.

Alternatively, just start reading over the threads for the past three weeks or so. I know that I read one on HIFU recently.

Hi again,

A moderator just gave an explanation on another thread on how to do a search. Here it is:

1. Click on "Search' (next to 'Chat') and type in the key word(s) you are looking for. This search seems to mainly render findings based off the subject of the post only.

2. You can search for specific information from post contents by typing key word(s) and the following into Google: site:healingwell.com "search keyword here"

Jajcarro,

If you go to www.yananow.net and enter the web site and then click on Mentor Experiences and scroll down you will see the stories of men listed by type of treatment. Under the HIFU are six or seven stories. These may be helpful to you. Those men that are listed as Yana Mentors have agreed to receive direct contact so you might want to email some of these guys.

Hello Jajcarro, yeah

I dont want to seem negative, I did consider HIFU myself.

Untill I did more research to find out that if one cell of cancer is left behind,

it can and probably will come back. And given the area and the organs and

nerves and blood vessels and bladder, and, and, and....

The problem is after HIFU, Radiation, Cyrogeics, or any treatment that does

 not remove the tumer, The entire area is scar tissue, and very few surgens

will do this operation.

I just wanted you to consider this before making a decision, This is one decision

you cant take back. But if after surgery it is nessacery to have more treatment

that option is still avalible. Read Dr Scardino's book before you make a decision.

Hey jajcarro, my urologist says that surgery after failed HIFU is very possible. It's not without risk, or side effects, however. I think the catheter stays in for about a month. I strongly suggest that you avoid third world countries. Go to Canada, or England, or Europe.

Hi fellow members who have had HIFU:

I am scheduled to have HIFU with Dr. D'Urso in Turin, Italy on 2/28. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had HIFU and any comments re: effects, catheter, recovery, insurance coverage.

For those looking for treatment closer to home, there is a clinic in Toronto that offers HIFU.  I have an article at home that provides the details - I'll pull it out and post here for those who don't want to travel as far as Japan or Italy.

Hi Jim,     I hope you don’t mind hearing from those who have not had HIFU… we care about you too!! Not hearing from you after several members sent replies to your 1 st post…we were wondering what your research had turned up.    It’s always nice to hear back from newbies ~ especially when they’ve made their decision.   It’s a great relief for all ~ once the mind is set to move forward.     The most important thing that jumps to my mind is making sure you have a doctor locally who is willing to be your “doctor” here… to help with any unexpected complications and catheter removal.     It truly would be a wonderful gift to all of us and especially Newbies who will be coming onboard in the future if you could gently guide them from day 1 of your diagnosis, through your decision making process and research, to the decision, etc…..   Also ~ to learn a little more about you with some statistics….     Our thoughts and prayers will remain with you and will even fly with you to Italy.   So ~ feel the strength from your new family on the forum.   In Friendship ~ Lee & Buddy     ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   ~   Helping to keep the journey together.... for future readers...
