Good Morning Alex!
I am now at the hospital where I am getting my daily outpatient proton radiation treatments. They have a wonderful resource room with comfortable chairs, computers, etc. I just happened to talk to one of the ladies in charge of this resource center. After I told her that I was here for treatment of my prostate cancer, she told me that her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer 7 years ago at age 45 (about your age). He had open surgery seven years ago and she said he is doing just fine!
Keep in mind that seven years ago, PC treatments were not as advanced as they are today. We now have robotic surgery which many of the men, especially at your younger age, come through with flying colors. There are also much safer forms of radiation beam treatments today (e.g., proton and IMRT x-ray). When she told me about her husband, I immediately thought of you!
With your earlier stage of PC you are bound to do very well with a significant probability of a cure, with no incontinence after a short period of time and restoration of your potency within a reasonable period of time. The lady told me that her husband uses one of the drugs like viagra and everything is fine. I know that you are going through a difficult time now which is a normal human reaction to shocking news, but you will come around and start to feel more positive. We are not here to nag you, but to spur you on. I know that you have responded to TC-Las Vegas postings (which is great because you are getting into the spirit of this message board)--he is an inspriation to all of us here, especially in view of his later stage PC and how he is not going to let PC defeat him. Cheers!
Dave
P.S. Any pain you are experiencing since getting the news could result from body chemistry changes in reaction to the news. The mind can play nasty tricks on body chemistry. However, if it doesn't go away soon, you should consult with your doctor.
