Successful HIFU on February 28, 2007 in Turin Italy

I am 62 and went to Turin Italy last week to have HIFU treatment by Dr. Leonardo D'Urso. Insurance will not cover it, but due to their socialized medicine, my total cost for HIFU, dozens of e-mails from Turin doctors, hospital stay overnight after HIFU, and follow-up visit following night to Dr. D'Urso was only about $5600 USD (compared to $25,000 for HIFU in Toronto). I felt some discomfort during the night after HIFU but walked a couple miles the day after and had a great trip to Turin. If you are considering HIFU, and have a Gleason score of 7 or less, a prostate size of less than 40, you may qualify. I would be happy to receive phone calls from those seeking more information. Your US urologists will discourage dyou and tell you there is no research, but there are several studies on HIFU if you do a little research. I do not expect to have any side effects. I was already taking Viagara due to having type II diabetes for several years; Dr. D'Urso said he preserved the nerve bundles on the other side of the prostate not affected by cancer, so I expect to regain the same sexually capability as before.

Unlike Da Vinci, there is no recovery period with HIFU (Google HIFU). I felt great the next day and walked a couple miles, and I am going back to the office on Monday.

Hi Jim - Glad to hear your treatment went so well. Sounds like your time in Spain was very nice - even though your reason for being there was difficult. Lemonade out of lemons, yes?

I'm a native Syracusan myself but have lived in FL for 35 years. Our nephews played lacrosse for SU - the Powell brothers - GO SU!

Hi  I am from Vancouver,Canada

Just recently diagnosed

Age 59  Gleason count of 6  (3+3) Prostrate size 35

2/10 samples were cancerous (they were sise by side)

Would very much like to talk to you and hence will call you on Tuesday as you enjoying Memorial day

In terms of treatment I have decided on HIFU
