What about the enema you have to give yourself before the biopsy?

Denial is a very powerful emotional response to some things we just do not feel we should have to deal with. Another member here, pcdave has talked several times about his "watchful waiting" for his PCa being self-imposed due to his inability to go have the biopsy. I understand those feelings, having experienced them myself and having basically waited for 2 years longer than I should have before having my biopsy done. Guess what I found afterwards? It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I do have PCa. So denial of the PSA results didn't work. The cancer is there and probably had been for several years.

To answer the enema question. I had never had one before and certainly had never self-administered one. It was kind of ackward, kneeling on the floor, butt in the air, face on the floor doing it mostly by feel, kinda hard to see in that position . The instructions say to not worry about injecting all of the solution, but I got most of it in. Stayed on the floor for a couple of minutes, then got up and waited maybe 5 or more minutes till I didn't want to hold it anymore and sat down on the toilet. Gravity did the rest. After I was done, I thought, well I guess that wasn't so bad. I just had to go through the biopsy. I am however balking at the 3 enemas the Dr. wants me to administer in order to have a sigmoidoscopy. I've already told them I won't be doing THAT till I return from Loma Linda and being treated for the PCa.

Your husband should be glad that you are concerned and he probably is. You really should not be worried for the short term though about his health or the possibility he may have PCa. You are wasting energy that would be better spent working to help him understand that you are doing this out of love and compassion and that he needs to act in his own best interest, take control of his health and have the biopsy. Oh No...The indignities of diagnosis. 

This will be a difficult time for you and your husband.  He will be angry at the possibility of cancer. Angry at the doctor. Angry at you. angry at himself.  Angry at all the stupid things he has to put himself through to find if he does or does not have cancer.  Maybe even angry at the dog.

I had some previous experience (colon cancer tests) with enemas, laxatives, fasts and tests. "God, I hope no one can see me...." If there is a  positive biopsy for PCa another set of Xrays, scans ,tests, blood, urine, poop.. are required. Poked, prodded and humiliated....oh what fun !

The best thing that will happen is a negative biopsy and no prostate cancer.  Hope for the best .

You can do it....both of you can do it.  Don't forget to let your LOVE SHOW for each other.  if the love  is there you will survive.
