Hey everyone. Last time I posted we had problems with the caverject, with the doc sending us home with a sample to try on our own. I went to the compounding pharmacey near us and found that several of the doctor's at our previous urologist use the trimix, so we made an appt. with him. He was a pretty funny guy, and much more energetic and proactive than our previous doc at that practice. He said that while Jeff would probably regain his erections in time he knew we wanted sex now, so we were going to do waht we needed to so he could have a "rip-roarin' erection", (his exact words).
So we went back today with the bimix, which he helped Jeff administer. He used .5cc, and while it wasn't a full erection it was okay. With the pump he can get it to almost the size of his erections post surgery, but he's had to work at it. This shot put us at about 50-60 %. Although the bimix was definitely more comfortable than the cavrject. just having the erection itself was uncomfortable - any pressure on it up or down was painful. I'm assuming this is because he hasn't had one for 9 months.
It is a bit frustrating when I read of the experience of others, and how much sooner their dr.s started treatment. I kept getting the feeling from our docs that because Jeff is so young, the surgery went well and he had excellent erectile function before the surgery that they thought things would bounce back quickly, or that he'd need less medication, so they were taking their time with everything. According to the numbers I've seen posted for bimix or trimix dosage, Jeff is starting out higher, with results that aren't as great. OUr new doc said to be patient, that many things factor in - and that depending on mood, fatigue, stress etc. sometimes he might need more, sometimes less. So we're just going to keep at it. Hopefully it will start to feel more comfortable again, and we can use a lower dosage - that will save us some $ - I don't know if Blue cross covers it or not.
On a good note, Jeff just had his 3rd PSA and it was again undetectable. And our son who is in the Marines found out he will be stationed in New River, NC, less than 2 hours from home, so we'll see him every weekend!
That was a big answer to our prayers. He will eventually be deployed with the squadron he's attached to, but that probably won't be for another year. So for a while at least I'll have all of my brood close at hand.
I want to thank everyone for the posts of their experiences with ed and solutions to it - it has been very helpful to look up the info on previous posts. and I feel much more on top of things when we meet with the doc. We go back to see him in 2 weeks to see how th einjections are going, so if any of you have comments or advice to share I'd appreciate it!
