I had my second post-op check up last week (PSA < 0.01!) and, just when I thought that one advantage of an RP is that I would never have to be on the pointy end of that particular piece of equiment again, my specialist did a rectal ultrasound. He showed me some shadows on the screen and said they were tissue remnants of the prostate which were left after surgery He also said there were some remnants of the seminal vesicles.
I had asked my surgeon to err on the side of leaving what he could leave (in terms of maximising nerve sparing) if he had the chance, so it could be that he followed my request too closely.
My specialist told me this increases the chance of recurrence a little but not to lose any sleep, we just have to be more careful monitoring PSA and react quickly if something does show up. He has requested my detailed surgery report to see exactly what was done and why in the operation. Since I had no positive margins, I can almost convince myself there is nothing to worry about
.
Is this common? Is there a reason for concern? I've tried searching online for information, but haven't found anything specific.

Main aim of a good surgeon is a positove outcome and he would not compromise that by trying to spare nerves if it was not logical to do so. In that context, I do not think shadows on a rectal ultrasound should be cause for concern.
