hi everyone
I am newly self-diagnosed with celiac disease.. i have been gluten free for about
3 weeks and have been feeling much better! my hair and nails are finally starting to come back!! I started a vitamin to help with my nourishment about
a week ago.. I tried centrum for women.. But my bones are still hurting me.. I dont know if its connected but i do still have a lot of bone pain and especially in my knees/legs... its hard to walk. I'm not sure if this because of not getting proper nutrition for a long time but I was wondering if I am on the vitamin centrum and my bones are still hurting.. should i add more calcium and vitamin D to my diet?? is anyone going thru the same thing??

Hi,
I had negative blood work for celiac, so my doctor classified me as non-celiac gluten intolerant because my symptoms cleared up on a gluten free diet. Treatment is the same either way. It did take a couple of months for my bone pain to significantly decline, so I would just say be patient, and make sure that you are not accidentally consuming hidden gluten.
You may also have other undiscovered food sensitivities, or another issue going on. Best wishes!

Research indicates that celiac disease doesn't just attack the intestines, but actually forms antibodies against bone; see the following link:

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and acute anemia. Lactose intolerance came along for the ride! I have been gluten free & dairy free for 2 weeks. My joints hurt, my brain's foggy and I'm hungry ALL of the time. I, also, have no ambition, can't concentrate and am very sluggish. Will Celiac Sprue control the rest of my life or is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

Hi Granny. Are you treating the anemia with any iron supplements?
If you are hungry are you having trouble finding things you can tolerate? Lactose intolerance is pretty easy to manage. You should be able to use lactase pills (sold under the brand name lactaid among others) with dairy meals to aid in the digestion of lactose. Gluten, of course, you must avoid forever. Hopefully you will feel better soon. It took about
2 weeks GF before I really noticed a difference.

I was taking iron 3x's a day and taking Lactaid with dairy consumption. Both gave me
cramps and diarrhea. Now I take iron 2x's a day and consume no dairy. Citracal is my answer for lactose intolerance. The constant hunger is my main problem. Any suggestions? Kazbern, thanks for your suggestions!

Gluten detox can cause cravings. It will pass.

I'm seriously lactose intolerant and no amount of lactase works for me, except lactaid's milk seems to be okay in small doses (I'm british, I HAVE to have milk in my tea!). I've heard recently that fortified foods/vitamins with calcium and vitamin D don't actually absorb very well in comparison to getting the vitamins from food itself, but that's could just been sensationalist tv news. But there are lots of non-dairy places to get calcium like oranges (orange juice is supposed to be great for it), soy, and a lot of greens. That's how I try to get my calcium. :)
Also, I just started the gluten elimination diet this week as well and I'm hungry all the time, too! I think it's our bodies' way of adjusting to the new conditions we're giving it. I actually dreamt about
bread last night, haha!

That is true... fortified nutrients are usually synthetic and more difficult for the body to absorb and process. So getting nutrition from whole foods (veggies, fruits, etc.) vs. fortified, packaged, overprocessed foods is far superior.
