H pylori, pain on right side

I just finished treatment for h pylori. It was two weeks on omeprazole, clarithromycin and Metronidazol for two weeks. The original pain I was having was heartburn, bloating and a pain on my side just under my rib cage. The antibiotics gave me diarrhea several times each day but I've been taking probiotics which I think have been helping.

I still have this pain on my right side and it is driving me crazy! It starts off just below my ribs but sometimes it travels to the top of my rib and towards my back. This is the same pain I had when I realized I was infected with h pylori. I have had ultrasounds which show my gallbladder is normal and I do not have a fever or nausea. I have a GI consultation appt in about two weeks but how do I cope with this pain? I saw a dr yesterday who said just put voltran cream on it, it's probably a muscle issue. I am taking 20 mg of omeprazole per day, so if it was an ulcer wouldn't that be helping it?

Hi, it sounds like you have the same pain and other symptoms as me, when I read your post, it was like I could have written it, apart from the h pylori treatment. I have had blood test for H pylori and celiac disease, both came back negative but my gastroenterologist says the blood tests are often not accurate, so I am booked in for an endoscopy and colonoscopy in two days time (which I am terrified about). Have you already had an endoscopy? I too have normal ultrasounds and abdominal CT scan.
I have been on nexium for over 18 months, 40mg and then 20mg, it helped at first with the extreme acidity I had, but I still have all these symptoms, especially below my right ribs. When I told my gastroenterologist that I was concerned about having an ulcer, he said that wouldn't be possible taking nexium for so long. He is more concerned about celiac disease. Sorry can't help you much but will keep an eye on your thread and hope your problem gets diagnosed.

I've had an ultrasound because I thought the pain was from my gallbladder but that came back normal. Then a dr thought I had costocronditis (rib inflammation) so I had an x ray on my ribs but everything was normal. I ended up going to the ER because I was having chest tightening and thought I was having a heart attack. I think it was from the severe indigestion and heartburn/acid reflex. Finally a dr decided to give me a blood test for h pylori which was positive. This same dr said that he didn't think it was celiacs disease because he said you develop it as a child but when I look up information online, it says you can develop it as an adult. I did not have severe rashes or constipation or diarrhea as a child, nor do I now. I have bloating.

The antibiotics I was on for h pylori for two weeks gave me even more symptoms than I have now, severe diarreha and pain throughout my entire abdomen. I have not been for an endoscopy yet but I have a consultation with a dr on May 27. I don't know what to do until then about this pain. I am only taking 20 mg once a day of omeprazole. Maybe I need a stonger dosage or different antacid?

Sometimes I increase my nexium back to 40mg and on some occasions I have had to add zantac and then gaviscon, as well as maxolon for nausea. Sorry can't advise on what you could do, hopefully you will get an endoscopy booked when you see the Dr.
I won't know what to think if my endoscopies come back normal (hope they do but what then explains the symptoms?) I also have rashes, hair loss, joint pains and bowel symptoms.
It is concerning though that you feel worse than before the antibiotics, maybe you need to see a doctor sooner than you see the GI specialist to address the severe diarrhoea and pain. I can empathise with you, I have had some episodes like that.
I will post again when I know results of my scopes.

Recent endoscopy showed some gastritis and h-pylori in my stomach, which would explain the throbbing I've had intermittently over the past year. Just finishing up a week of anti-biotics, and will continue with acid reducing meds for another 7 weeks to heal the gastritis.

Question: (1) did anybody else have "throbbing" in the stomach, and (2) does anybody know if there's a blood test to check if the anti-biotics killed the h-pylori? Don't want to do the breath test again, as it missed the problem first time around.

The blood test is the least accurate test for h. pylori, and can't tell between current active infection vs. past infection.

Breath test is supposedly one of the best tests, although if it missed it for you then I think you may need to do the biopsy again to know for sure...

I had that exact pain in the same area when I had H.Pylori last year (The lab looked at a stool sample to confirm that it was gone).
By the way, that pain & the location is also exactly what happens to me when I get 'glutened'. Do you have Celiac?

M having brainfog,anxiety,dizzyness, intestinal gad, acid reflux only 3 times during 1 year .plz tell me If my symptoms are due to h pylory. my endoscopy is nprmal but h pylory positive via rut\ rapid urease test
