Hyper Thyroid

  Hi I have recently been diagnosed with hyper-thyroid, my level was 79, which

I  was told quite high. I am currently on Tapazole 2 x a day and am scheduled

to see an endocrinologist this month. My questions: What can I expect at

the endocrinogist visit, has anyone had a similiar situation as myself?

I have a cyst on the right lobe of my thyroid that they had been monitoring and

fine needled two times, this may be the cause of the hyperthyroid condition. They

wanted to do surgury but since the thyroid is unstable they want me to see the

endocrinologist...Has anyone out there ever stabalized being on the drug and

then come off the drug and still remained stable. I have talked to a few people

that this has happened too.  Thanks for listening and hopefully someone can

share some info with me....|Also, I feel a lot better but have not had a lot

of weight gain, I have been on the drug for 1 month.

 Thanks for the email Joy. Were you diagnosed with hyper or hypo? Also

did you have your thyroid radiated and then removed?

I've been on meds for my hyop for about 10 yrs. I am having problems now and not sure what is going on. Have an appointment with a new endo today.

My understanding is once you are on the meds you have to continue for the rest of your life. You may level out and not have to have tests but once a year but you still the meds to stay at that level.

My father had thyroid disease and my neice has it also. Runs in the family.
