Hi Everyone

For a week now I've had a choking feeling in my neck, I'm also losing quite a bit of hair.

Is this hypo or something else?

As it's a bank holiday I can't get a drs appt until Tuesday.

Looking forward to hearing from you lovely people.

Hair loss can be caused by either hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, or any number of other conditions and medications.

Thyroid symptoms are slow in onset and don't advance rapidly, so there should be no problem in waiting a bit to be seen. Your doctor will probably do lab tests and a physical exam. The pertinent thyroid tests would be TSH, free T4 & T3.

Thanks Judy2. The sensation in my neck is really starting to get me down. I suffer from anxiety so I'm constantly thinking 'what if'. If it is thyroid probs and have to start meds, please tell me this sensation goes away?

Those are two symptoms of thyroid issues, so you may have a thyroid condition. As Judy mentioned, visit your doctor.

I visited my GP yesterday and she gave me a thorough examination, couldn't find any swelling but doesn't necessarily mean it isn't my thyroid. I had to go back this morning for my blood tests, had vitamin b-12, thyroid, bone etc. will hopefully get results Monday :))

Good to know. It's a good thing she didn't make you get the bloodtest right after the examination. It's not well known but when the doctor examines and is pushing on things, it can actually increase your thyroid. So you go for testing and your thyroid is at or above normal ranges because of this.

Hi

So I've finally had my blood test results back today. I have a deficiency in Vitamin D. Everything else came back normal, but would like a copy of my results - is this possible to get?

If you're in the US, you have a right to copies of your records under HIPPA laws. The doctor can charge a small copying fee per page, although most don't unless you're asking for reams of copies. I always ask for a copy of my reports before I leave the office for those docs who don't just routinely give them to me.

Vitamin D deficiency is being found very frequently in the US now. I've been on massive doses of vitamin D for years and it keeps my level just at the borderline range. It can cause problems with a lot of different body systems, so hopefully getting that resolved will help you.

As Judy said you can get your results.
I would like to see your thyroid output anyways.
Luckily it only seems to be Vit D, which can easily be supplemented.

Hi all

I requested a copy of my lab results and got them today.

My TSH levels were 1.83.
Ferritin was 38

Vitamin D is classed as gross deficiency at 9.6, should be in between 50-150.

So have been given bio-vitamin D3 to take. Still doesn't give answers as to why my neck hurts!

Hi!

You should have a Free T3 test and a Free T4 test done as well. I had 10 doctors tell me that my thyroid gland was fine until an Endocrinologist inspected it. They will hold your throat and ask you to swallow several times. If they didn't do this, you should find a doctor who can conduct a physical thyroid exam.

Also, thyroid problems can cause pain through your neck and out to your shoulders. If the pain is serious you can also request imaging to rule out anything else.

Thank you, I'm back at the doctors on Monday evening. I can't continue with this feeling in my neck, it's really starting to get me down & I'm really starting to worry about what it actually is.
