I am so confused! I was referred to an endocrinologist because my TSH levels were extremely low. She tested my T3&T4. They were normal. I had been having symptoms of hyperthyroidism and timemy thyroid was enlarged and painful when she examined it. I have, however, suspected that I was having hypothyroidism symptoms for years. I can't lose weight to save my life. I am unusally slow and fatigued, etc. My antibodies were high for Hashimotos. She said there is definitely an autoimmune issue going on.
At my next appointment, my thyroid was no longer enlarged or painful! My hyperthyroidism symptoms had started to calm down. She diagnosed me with Subacute thyroiditis and expects everything to resolve itself. She did mention that there is a chance that I could go into hypothyroidism.
I have a problem believing this diagnosis. Don't the autoimmune antibodies indicate Hashimotos as opposed to Subacute thyroiditis? I have had symptoms for years and felt sick for a long time. I have a hard time believing that thus is transient, as she said. Should I get a second opinion? Should I just wait it out?
(I gave your thread a title in hope it will get more responses)
