You definitely should have the full thyroid panel, maggiepi. The TSH is okay for monitoring if someone doesn't have thyroid problems and is stable, but if you've had problems, you definitely need to have the panel.
If you're not being followed by an endocrinologist familiar with thyroid issues, consider finding one. Surgeons tend to be less invested after all the surgical treatment is finished, and GP's don't always have the current knowledge to help stabilize you.
