Ok so daughter had enlarged thyroid. Did ultrasound and the nuclear scan. Scan was ok(everything lit up) but the left side is pretty enlarged. Maybe some slight issues swallowing. Going to remove the left side on the 20th. She is only 20 :( So what to expect? Recovery time? Thoughts in general. I sure hope there is no noticeable scar on her neck.

I will have her in my thoughts on that day and will send out Huge Positive Vibes to her . I had a little neck thing done and the incision was done in a fold and I assume they will do the same , I had a slight scar for maybe a year and with vitamin E oil and Mederma the scar went totally away ,

Thanks. Yes they will do it in a fold. I'll keep the e oil and maderma in mind to use.

She is really scared. She had scoliosis surgery when she was 12 but and that's major surgery(7 hours). I have been telling her this won't be as bad but it would be nice if others who have had the surgery could chime in with what to expect and how it went.

I'm not sure we have anyone around right now who has had the surgery. You might search for thyroid surgery in the search box at the top of the page, as I know this has been discussed in the past.

on youtube there are many people talking about having the surgery , I would check that out , I am a chicken sissy coward , but that surgery she is having I would not be afraid , she is gonna do great !

She did great. She actually likes the scar lol

Pathology report came back Hashimotos disease. Not sure where to go from here

from what I have read most hypo cases are Hashimotos , so does this just mean the thyroid just keeps getting attacked until there is nothing left of it , all confusing to me ,, I am sure she will be fine
