Hi all
Due to an enlarged thryoid (no masses or nodules seen on ultrasound) my doctor performed some blood work. These are my recent results
Thyroglobulin Antibodies less that 1 IU/ML (normal range)
T4, Free 1.2 (0.8-1.8 lab range)
TSH 2.66 (0.4-4.5 lab range)
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 96 IU/ML (less that 9 normal range)
The only thing that came back abnormal was my Thyroid Peroxidase.
Could this suggest the start of a thyroid issue even though the others are all in normal range?
Thank you

Yes, elevated TPO is a sign of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. You can have Hashi's before hypothyroidism. What did your doctor say? There are two other tests that I would recommend - free T3 and Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAB). Those will help tell the bigger picture.

My doctor did test for Thyroglobulin Antibodies and that came back normal. No T3 was done. She said because of the positive TPO ) that no treatment at this time was necessary. She wants to repeat blood work every 8 to 12 weeks because the positive TPO could mean the start of a thyroid issue.

Hi,
That sounds as the right thing to do at this point since your TSH is normal, antiTPOab is an indicator of hashimoto's disease, which can cause both hypo and hyperthyroidism .

Hi, I am new to this forum, but I am also being treated for Lyme. Are issues with thyroid related to lyme infections? I have been treating my early lyme with antibiotics for about
8 weeks now (probably 4 more weeks to go) and recently got an elevated thyroglobulin antibody result on my blood test (7.8 when 0-.9 is normal). My TPO was normal. I just noticed a few fellow lyme infections on this forum and was wondering if there is any correlation between the two??

Hi HealingHMM,
I have no idea if there is any correlation between lyme and thyroid issues. I have been treated twice for lyme (positives by cdc standards). I haven't read about
any relation between the two (other than some similar symptoms I have experienced).

Lyme can be a trigger or root cause of Hashimotos. Izabella Wentz is a pharmacist who writes about
the importance of finding the root cause of hashimotos. She has a book, but you can also Google to find her page and read more. Some people who have successfully treated lyme, no longer have thyroid issues.
