Hey all,

I am hypothyroid and taking nature-throws. Was curious to see if anyone was taking this, what your experience is, and how long it took to see full effect?

Nature throid, west throid, armour, np acella, and canada's erfa thyroid are all nearly identical in the T3 and T4 pig thryroid content. The differences in these is the fillers, which affects the absorbing in some people. So different BRANDS of the same type for sure can have different effects on people for this reason.

You need to start all of these slowly by starting about 1/2 dose, then "ramping up" about 15 mg (1/4 grain) per two weeks. This can be achieved via pill spliter.

So this can take a while to increase and start feeling well.

After the "guessed dose" is reached, it takes 5-6 weeks to fully take effect. And then your body still has to get used to it, its slow and tops out in 3-6 months, depending on how long you were hypo befor starting meds, or even changing brands (same as starting over to your body).

I've taken all north american brands of natural in my 18 years of Hashi. Yes, I tried it all in search of optimal thyroid symptom releaf. Drs suck at this.

Thanks so much for sharing that information. This is exactly what I did. I actually started at 1/4, and recently began taking one grain. What symptoms should I look out for to know whether this dosage is appropriate?

Symptoms are different for everybody. I know mine just because I've restarted from a hypo state many times.

Anziety is NOT just a hyper symptom, hyPO creates anxiety and heart palps in many people. Body pain is another.

But ramping up too fast will make one jittery, hot, sweaty, go slow.

You really need to learn your symptoms and compare to ft3 and ft4 test levels, keep in notebook for future use.

My doctor is switching me from levothroxine to Nature-throid. She's prescribed the equivalent dose of the levo I was on and said I should take it the same way. Should I also start with half a dose? I was/am taking 75 mcgs of levo.

You should follow your doctor's directions. If, after a few weeks, you feel revved up like you've had too much coffee or slowed down like you're walking through water, call your doctor.

Nature Thyroid has a conversion table on their website. I think it's approx 1 grain for every 100 mcg of Levothyroxine.

That said; I tried to do the conversion using their chart and just a little while in I fell asleep at a stop light while I was driving. When I increased I had night sweats and a fine tremor. My TSH was very high when tested.

I am now back on Levothyroxine. While I am not in love with big pharma sometimes I just have to not try to fix what isn't broken. :)

I haven't been on the Nature-throid for very long, but I'm feeling terrible. My energy is low, my limbs feel heavy and I'm worried it's going to get worse from here. I'm tempted to go back to the levothyroxine. Could I maybe need a higher dose? I know I'm getting a lower dose of T4 but some T3 with it.

I have a follow-up with an endo I saw a few months ago and I don't know what I should tell her.

You should tell your doctor the truth. I had a mix of 'symptoms' on the Nature-thyroid that included hot flashes and dry skin and constipation... so both hypo and hyper symptoms. It turned out that the low symptoms were because the meds were not strong enough and the hyper symptoms were because of other problems. Once my thyroid was stabilized only the low symptoms went away, leaving the doctor more information to figure out what else was going on.

Hi ok I started N-T at one grain which is 16.5mg well in the doctors office he said after a week increase to two grains, well I did today .....I just read the bottle it says after TWO weeks.....so do I go back to one tomorrow or see how I feel today on two and if no problem continue?
This thyroid is all new to me, I'm usually dealing with my gut issues chrons and UC .

therearemiracles- Starting any thyroid med with T3 can create temporary discomforts, feeling hot, trembles, night sweats are to some extent normal for the first month. So the rate of increasing that one person is comfortable with, may not be to another person.

It takes GREAT patients (timewise) starting any brand of natural thyroid. Almost everyone will feel worse before they get better. Many assume they should feel great in a couple weeks, they dont, then they quit. Unfortunantly, many dont feel better till two or three months, thats how long it can take for your body to get used to additional T3.

So however you decide to increase, the golden rule is to have your FT3/FT4/TSH tested after youve been on the same dose for six weeks. If yoyu go before then, it wont be as accurate, since it takes six weeks for thyroid hormone to take full effect. Some do go at four weeks when on a new med to get a "ballpark " figure, understanding in two more weeks another test will be required.

That is a long time to feel awful, while waiting for your body to get use to the nature-throid. Sadly, I have to put myself in that group that started Nature-throid and felt really, really terrible that I stopped and went back to my levo. I really wanted the N-T to work but I think because It was during the major snow storm that I was by myself, felt terrible and useless. I couldn't help shovel and had no energy to even salt the walkway we have. I have an appointment this week with my NP and I was hoping to talk to her about more options or maybe a different way to take the N-T. I was going to ask her about cytomel and armour. I
really want to give the NDT a chance but there has to be a way to adjust to it without making me bed-ridden.

I am actually having a confusing experience with this med, as I seem to lose symptoms of fatigue, lethargy, and low mood when increasing my dosage, but this seems to dissipate quite quickly. Does this mean my body is adjusting to the medication too rapidly, or that I have not reached the proper dose yet? I am going to my physician for blood work in two weeks, but wanted to check in with NT users to compare experiences. Additionally, I am pre-diabetic and check my blood sugars often and have noticed this med raises my glucose about 10 points.
