Hair shedding, have multiple nodules on thyroid.

Hi, new here. I have multiple nodules on my thyroid ( had ultrasound 3 times to monitor it ) My TSH is .29 with the range being .36-3.74. My T4 is .98 with range being .76-1.46. I am concerned now that my hair is shedding a lot more then normal so I asked my GP to refer me to an Endocrinologist. Appointment isn’t until 3 weeks. I started taking Biotin vitamins for my hair but afraid that’s not enough or won’t help. Amy ideas or comforting words ????

Have those levels been similar for a while or were you hypo in the near past?

Have hashimoto?

Its now proven that glutan free can help hashimoto. I was partially GF for a few years , then went 100% and surprisingly my 5mm nodule of ten years dissolved, as in gone. Nodules are the result of inflammation.

Was never tested until the incidental findings on a head CT showed multiple nodules goiter. SO, DID BLOOD LEVELS ( TSH and T4 ) about 2 years ago and the levels declined each time I took blood test which was 3 times, last blood test was in August with third ultrasound. Have a 0.6 cm on left lobe and a .09 cm on right lobe and coarse calcifications on one nodule along with other smaller nodules. 62 year old woman. Have no idea if I have Hasimotos.
2 weeks until I finally get to see an Endocrinologist ! Very anxious to say the least !,!

Endocrinologist are not automatically better. Continue to learn all things throid on your own. Dr izabella on you tube is good.

Astroman is right about going gluten-free. In fact everyone should. It’s a chemical that messes with hormones, to shine a very small light on gluten in this case. Never see an endocrinologist for thyroid issues. They only care about TSH, as stated in their bylaws, and TSH is a pituitary hormone, not a thyroid hormone, but does have value if the proper labs are ordered. Your endo didn’t order the right labs. Endos take care of Diabetic patients, and that’s the only thing they’re good for. Go to your family doctor. Have them order a TSH, T3, FT4, T4, FT3, and a reverse T3. Don’t settle for anything less. YOU'RE their employer, not the other way around.

Looking at the pitiful labs ordered, as a former medical lab scientist, there’s nothing I can tell about how bad your thyroid really is. Get a referral to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) for a FNA (fine needle aspiration) of your nodules. 0.09cm nodule is in the category for a need for an FNA.

Is it unusual for someone to be in normal range of TSH, mine was 1.2 for TSH but could potentially have messed up T3 & T4? I ask because I too have several nodules, 2 that are moderately suspicious others mild and have had intense hair loss/shedding. I also appear to have Lyme related issues too so not sure what is causing what exactly. Also have had major weight loss and slow gain.

- it can happen. Strange but true. Sometimes T3 can be low if you dont convert well from a decent T4 level.
