okay, so I've been on Synthroid for a couple weeks now & I feel like I'm just all over the map. One day I'm feeling pretty good, the next day, I feel as lousy as before. Plus, my monthly friend likes to come to visit me for a day or two on the same days I'm feeling like the meds are not doing any good. Is this normal or is there something not right going on? Maybe part of it is the weather, but it just seems like my thyroid hormones (as well as other hormones) have run amuck. Any thoughts?

yup. It will stablize out but you might have to go up in dose, but like I said for me it took 2 months to start feeling more balence.

Thanks, Navy. I do have an appointment with my PCP for the beginning of August, so I guess I need to just give things a little time to balance out & then see whether I maybe need to increase the dose. Thanks so much for replying to me.

Frances, it took a couple of years for my level to become completely stabilized when I started on Synthroid. It would get stable, then gradually I'd become just slightly hypo - not enough for me to notice, but enough to show on a blood test. Now I've been on the same dosage and stable for about 8 years.

My wife deals with this a lot. The doctors say it is because some days your thyroid may produce different amounts and it can vary a lot. She has to have hers checked every 6 months to keep her at the right level. Some times they have to up her dosage 2 or 3 times to get it under control and then her levels go too high and they lower her dosage a couple times. She gets it checked every 2 weeks when it acts up and she usually ends up back at 125 or 150 for a dosage. Sometimes she has to go up to 225 though before her levels get high. The ENT who did her surgery is kind of baffled by it because he said usually when he removes both sides most people only need 125 or less. She still has her right side and it does all these wacky things. She has been taking Synthroid for 25 years now. We are fighting with our insurance again because they want her on generic and our doctor wants her on the name brand.

Thank you so much for the information. I have been trying to reach my PCP for the past week & she is not returning my calls (I'm not sure whether she is even getting the messages since she has not gotten my messages in the past & was completely clueless when I ended up at the ER in horrible shape).

I have been so sick the past few days. Today my bp went super low & I got dizzy & collapsed at work. It really scared my co-workers a lot. I was only a little bit scared, but I'm starting to realize that the Synthroid is not like taking an antibiotic where you get gradually better. It is more like the potholes in the roads where you fix them & they come back, then you don't patch them right & they buckle. That's what it feels like is going on in my body -- a bumpy ride with lots of buckles & potholes. I guess I need to just keep on my PCP for more regular visits to at least get me somewhat stabilized.
