Three month blood work in!

Well I've been on 100mg of synthoid for three months now and I went for my blood work two weeks ago. I got the information today.

Cholesterol- total 187      bad LDL- 120

FBG- 119

Thyroid level down from 5.0 to 0.5. They want to cut my dosage now! I don't want it cut I feel great!

OH, I'm at a lost!

What now?

I think I would tell them what you just said. That at this stage you feel good.

Hi Joy,
I totally understand the fear of cutting back on the dose when you just start to feel better. But as I've been reading more of the stuff my doctor has recommended about thyroid disorders, I've read that hyperthyroidism can be as dangerous or worse as hypothyroidism. Right now you are at the very bottom of the normal range of where your thyroid should be. I agree with Navy that you need to talk it over with your doctor, but maybe your doctor is just trying to keep you within the safe zone -- but I'm really new at this so I could totally be wrong.

What is she wanting to cut you down to -- 75mcg?

I've had both, and I can tell you hyperthyroidism is much worse - in how you feel as well as in what it does to your body. When I was diagnosed, my heart rate was above 120. I was actually wearing out my heart muscle at about twice the rate I should have been. And I felt absolutely terrible.

Staying closer to the center of the range is generally the way to feel your best and maintain your health optimally.

They called back today and told me I'm going down to 75mg.
They said to hold on to the old pills, because I maybe a person who changes constantly.

Joy, we're all different, but I always found the best way to monitor myself was by checking my heart rate. 75 or under is good for me. 85 or above means I need blood tests to see where I am.

I'm glad to hear they got back to you. I hope that helped you feel a bit less worried. I totally get you being nervous & all. Hopefully everything will go very, very smoothly with the 75's, but know that we all understand and are here to support you if for some reason they're not enough. At least you have the 100's still so if need be your doc can always raise you back up to the 100's. :)

Thanks ya'll.

I'm just tired of being chronically ill and being loaded down with medication. I feel like a walking pill bottle some days.
I pray I'm not one of the unfortunate people who change levels every month.
