Thyroid cancer

Bad news at follow up with surgeon. He told me that my thyroid had cancer. So on to the oncologist next week. Has anyone gone thrum the radioactive treatment for thyroid ca fer? What can I expect?

No personal experience with it...yet. My mother had thyroid cancer, she took some type of pills (radiation?) not sure exactly but she had to be quarantined after taking them. That was 10 years ago and she's doing just fine now.

Your treatment will depend on the type of cancer and the size. I'm still waiting to have my RAI treatment but I had a total thyroidectomy for Papillary Thyroid cancer in Jan 2013. Since I had my surgery I have been seeing an endocrinologist and not an oncologist.

I've been doing a lot of reading at http://thyroid.about.com/ and you might want to subscribe to Mary Shomon's blog. If you're interested I could start posting some other information as I discover it.

Have you seen the oncologist? Has he given you any more information?
